Another day, another title for Connor “blanconegro” Drinan. The Mexico-based American is crushing this edition of the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). Read the latest from the SCOOP tables…

TODAY’S HEADLINES

• Drinan lands record-equalling fourth SCOOP
• Veldhuis’ High Roller run ends in seventh
• CatLover666 purring in Heads Up
• Three wins and Brazil moves up leader board
• SCOOP 2020 extended – see new schedule

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Drinan times four: Get out the record books, folks, and blow off the dust. We have a new entry to write. Connor “blanconegro” Drinan last night won a fourth title of this SCOOP festival, adding victory in the $1,050 HORSE to his three previous Omaha crowns. A similar haul has only been achieved once before in the 10-year history of SCOOP, by Shaun “shaundeeb” Deeb in 2012. There are, of course, more events this time around, but there are also more players and Drinan’s complete mastery represents a breathtaking achievement in some of the most difficult disciplines. To win the HORSE, Drinan had to see off Mike “goleafsgoeh” Leah heads-up, after players such as Luke “lb6121” Schwartz, Tobias “Senkel92” Leknes and Benny “RunGodlike” Glaser had all made the money but fallen short of the final. From 139 entries, Drinan was top dog yet again, and added a $30,232.50 payday. (He also made the penultimate round in the $2,100 NLHE Heads Up for good measure.)

It’s the Connor Drinan show!

Drinan’s SCOOP 2020 titles:

SCOOP-34-H: $530 PLO8
Wins: $34,420.52
378 entries, $189,000 prize pool

SCOOP-40-H: $5,200 PLO, 6-Max
Wins: $152,011.46
150 entries, $750,000 prize pool

SCOOP-45-M: $215 NLO8, 6-Max, PKO
Wins: $28,358.58 inc. bounties
1,052 entries, $210,400 prize pool

SCOOP-56-H: $1,050 HORSE
Wins: $30,232.50
139 entries, $139,000 prize pool

Twitch sensation Lex Veldhuis

Veldhuis’s High Roller run ends in seventh: He had a T-shirt that read “It’s All Good” and thousands of viewers watching his every move on Twitch, but Lex Veldhuis couldn’t quite turn the momentum into his first title in SCOOP-57H last night. Veldhuis outlasted all but six players in this 184-entry, $5,200 buy-in field, but was eventually unable to get his five big blinds to double in a hand against his countryman “zazano”. Veldhuis won $41,995 for seventh. zazano completed the job a few hours later, beating Sweden’s “Odonkor1” heads up for a $201,606 payday and the win.

CatLover666 scratches through Heads Up: The Heads Up event, played with price points of $22, $215 and $2,100, is always among the most popular on the SCOOP schedule, and duly delivered some thrilling match-ups. In the quarter finals of the high buy-in tournament, for instance, Connor “blanconegro” played Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche, while other members of the last eight included Joris “BillLewinsky” Ruijs, Francisco “Tomatee” Benitez and Phillip “Grindation” McAllister. None of them ended as champion, however. Finland’s “CatLover666” beat Ruijs in the quarter final, accounted for Nitsche in the semis, and then beat McAllister in the final match when he or she rivered a full house with AJ to beat McAllister’s pocket kings. CatLover666 took $71,400 for the win. In the medium buy-in event, “d0nkBluff” of Romania and Germany’s “$harkFlo” opted to do a deal, leaving $1,000 on the side. d0nkBluff won the match, taking $15,691 to $harkFlo’s $14,691.09. Take you hats off to Brazil’s “JJborio”, however, who won the low buy-in event from a field of 4,096. He or she had to win 11 heads-up matches in a row to bank $8,633.45.

Menne picks up a second: When Kyle “km_freestle” Menne won his first SCOOP title in 2015, he did so by beating Shaun “shaundeeb” Deeb in the final round of a PLO Heads Up contest. That denied Deeb what would have been a record-equalling sixth SCOOP title at the time. Menne won his second SCOOP title last night, and in some ways it’s notable that Connor Drinan didn’t. Drinan was left languishing in 20th, pre-bubble, despite this being a $1,050 Limit Omaha event. It didn’t make it any easier for Menne, however, who needed to do battle with Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi heads up to secure the $28,546.77 first prize, and deny Shakerchi a second victory of this series. Last year’s Player of the Series Konstantin “krakukra” Maslak was also at the final, finishing sixth, as was the Chinese two-time champion “OK1OK2” who finished eighth.

Dayan happy at $530: Brazil’s Luciano “lucianodayan” Dayan has found a tournament he likes. Last year in the $530 NLHE, Dayan finished third behind “luckymo32”, and this time, in SCOOP-57-M, which was another $530 buy-in hold’em tournament, Dayan came out on top of a 1,641-entry field, earning $129,176. He needed to beat the Belarusian beast “OMGitshunt”, a former SCOOP winner and Main Event runner up, heads up, and also relegate “Bomber&Granater” into third. The final table also featured Claus “SsicK_OnE” Segebrecht and Robin “robinho” Ylitalo. But Dayan had this one in the bag — and his countryman “JUCA_PIRAMA1” also won the low buy-in edition, for $79,315.60.

TWITCH WATCH

It takes a lot to get Lex Veldhuis to leave his chair during SCOOP, especially when he’s running deep in everything he plays. But after a knock at the door last night, something tempted him away. “I could go to bed with this,” he said. What was it?

As you likely know, the central PokerStars Twitch channel is showing cards-up coverage of final table action from this SCOOP, with commentary from James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton. (It runs a day after the tournament happened, so that everyone’s cards can be exposed. Here’s how they covered an enormous pot on the $25K Super High Roller final table, in which Steve “Mr. Tim Caum” O’Dwyer found himself all in with AQ against pocket aces and pocket kings.
