Wannabe poker pugilists took the term “knockout” to heart.

The entrants in the $27 buy-in Low edition of Event #12: No-Limit Hold’em Knockout barely needed the second day, as 16,279 players were whittled down to 11 in only 44 levels of play on Thursday. That’s a heck of a lot of $5 bounties.

That registration number created a prize pool of $325,580, easily shattering the $125,000 guarantee put up by PokerStars, as well as $81,395 in bounties. Of the field, 2,475 players got paid and each was shooting for a sweet first-place prize of $35,129.12.

Team PokerStars representatives were not among the select few who came back for Day 2 on Friday. Gualter Salles placed the best at 606th ($91.16), while Martin “AABenjaminAA” Hruby finished 1,276th ($55.34) and Pat Pezzin came in 2,349th ($29.30).

The overly voweled Woooooza entered the second day as the chipleader with a stack of just more than 13.5 million while Derrybongo was close behind with 12.8 million.

Play began with blinds at 80,000/160,000 and a 20,000 ante, promising quick action from the onset of Day 2. The short-stacked Sheebs777 was the first to go when his pocket kings were cracked by an ace on the flop, then Hissoka PKR went out in tenth when his A♠ K♠ went down to the A♥ J♦ held by peelme1 when the board ran out 2♣ 7♥ J♠ 2♥ 3♣ . Both Sheebs777 and Hissoka PKR collected $1,220.92.

The final table and chip counts:

Seat 1 — DarkDing (6,090,660)
Seat 2 — Derrybongo (7,961,262)
Seat 3 — anguila.manu (5,410,085)
Seat 4 — Tamesis1 (14,539,614)
Seat 5 — theone93 (11,558,492)
Seat 6 — woooooza (18,098,724)
Seat 7 — peelme1 (11,272,757)
Seat 8 — moreyer (2,138,488)
Seat 9 — rosemarie209 (4,324,918)

Every Rose Has Its Thorn

Rosemarie209 pushed her 3.8 million stack in from the button playing with blinds at 125K/250K and Derrybongo called from the button.

The hands:
rosemarie209 J♣ Q♠
Derrybongo K♣ K♥

The flop of J♠ 5♦ 6♣ gave rosemarie209 hope, but proved just a tease when the turn and river came 10♦ A♠ . Rosemarie209 earned $1,953.48 for ninth.

Moreyer lost a flip to finish in eighth. Playing with blinds of 200K/400K and a 50K ante, woooooza raised to 1.2 million from the cutoff with A♦ Q♦ and moreyer pushed all in for 6.9 million in the small blind holding Jâ™  J♦ . DarkDing got out of the way in the big blind and woooooza made the call. The board ran out 8♥ K♥ Qâ™  5♦ A♣ to send moreyer away with $2,930.22 and give wooooza a big chip lead–nearly double his nearest competitor with 26 million.

DarkDing lost most of his chips when he called “heads” with pocket sevens, but the board ran out “tails” in favor of peelme1’s king-queen. He was subsequently eliminated in seventh a few minutes later on this hand:

DarkDing earned $4,883.70 for his efforts.

Next, Derrybongo raised to 2.4 million from the small blind, enough to force anguila.manu to make the all-in call. Anguila.manu, who had been quiet the entire final table, was finally forced to a decision and was behind with Q♣ 6♣ against the K♦ 10♦ of Derrybongo. The board missed both, leading to a king high win for Derrybongo and a sixth-place finish for anguila.manu worth $8,139.50.

The Final Five

Derrybongo lost a big pot to theone93 with a bet-fold on the flop and found himself as the next short stack. He pushed with nearly 4 million over the top of an opening raise under the gun by theone93 a few hands later, but found himself in bad shape with Aâ™  3♥ versus A♣ J♣ . The flop, turn, river was 4♥ 6♣ Qâ™  K♥ 7♥ to lead to Derrybongo’s exit in fifth. He was consoled by a $11,395.30 payday.

Peelme1, the only player who had not responded to chop talk, was the next to go in fourth–although Tamesis1 had a big sweat after the flop:

Peelme1 earned $14,651.10 for fourth and the players asked for a chop breakdown. After a 15-minute discussion they agreed to $29,484,88 for Tamesis1, $26,981.24 for woooooza and $25,000 for theone93. These three remaining contestants continued playing for an additional $25,000 for first and the SCOOP champion’s watch.

Theone93 doubled up quickly with A♣ J♠ against the A♠ 10♠ shown by woooooza, and used those chips to eliminate Tamesis1. Playing 500K/1M blinds with a 125K ante, Tamesis1 opened for 2.5 million on the button and theone93 raised all in for 25 million from the small blind. Tamesis1 called all in for 14.1 million and was well ahead with 7♠ 7♣ versus A♥ 5♦ . Unfortunately for Tamesis1, the board ran out 4♠ A♣ J♦ 4♣ 8♣ . Fortunately for Tamesis1 the deal was made when he had the chip lead so despite finishing third he was guaranteed to make the most money from the tournament.

Woooooza and theone93 entered heads-up play nearly even in chips, but woooooza quickly took the advantage. Each player put 2.9 million chips in the pot before a flop of K♠ 9♠ K♦ . Woooooza checked, theone93 bet 2.8 million and woooooza check raised to 9 million. Theone93 called, but folded on the turn when woooooza bet all in for 28.8 million after the 5♠ hit.

It was over eight hands later. Theone93 limped on the button and then called a raise to 3 million by woooooza. After a flop of A♦ 5♣ 10♦ , woooooza bet 4 million and theone93 moved all in for 19.2 million. Woooooza quickly called with A♠ 3♣ to put him well ahead of the 10♥ 8♠ that theone93 tabled. The board bricked out and woooooza was the winner.

The final table results (reflecting the three-way deal):

1st — woooooza ($29,481.24)
2nd — theone93 ($25,000)
3rd — Tamesis1 ($29,484.88)
4th — peelme1 ($14,651.10)
5th — Derrybongo ($11,395.30)
6th — anguila.manu ($8,139.50)
7th — DarkDing ($4,883.70)
8th — moreyer ($2,930.22)
9th — rosemarie209 ($1,953.48)
