When you think of a game in which you get four cards in your hand, the first poker discipline that comes to mind is probably not Badugi. But fans of the game came out in droves at PokerStars on Monday as 2,128 players entered SCOOP Event #4 $16.50 buy-in Badugi.

A total of 304 players got paid, with Bryan Huang (248th) the only Team PokerStars Pro who made the cut. Huang was among those who only made a profit of a few bucks, while those still alive aimed for a final table that would see the top five make in the four figures and the winner get more than $5,000.

The final table was set after just under 11 hours of play, and Smoopika entered as the chipleader with a stack of nearly 2.8 million.

Seat 1: Smoopika (2,785,534 in chips)
Seat 2: Masquesuerte (102,668 in chips)
Seat 3: jailks (949,920 in chips)
Seat 4: Loginov Vit (940,692 in chips)
Seat 5: raddis89 (2,204,077 in chips)
Seat 6: majagua69 (1,479,933 in chips)
Seat 7: DAMIROK (1,061,654 in chips)
Seat 8: tschillaut (1,115,522 in chips)

Battling the short stack, Masquesuerte was the first to go. This German player stood pat through three draws, undoubtedly holding a Badugi, but also having to fade three others who were chasing him in the pot. DAMIORK showed a 9♦ 4♣ 2♥ A♠ Badugi at showdown to take a nice 1.7 million pot. Masquesuerte finished eighth and earned $319.20.

Loginov Vit was the next to go three hands later when he got all in against Smoopika before the first draw. Loginov Vit tried three single discards, but could not improve his hand, tabling 3♥ 3♦ 4♥ A♣ at showdown. Smoopika took the pot with a 9♦ 7♣ 6♠ A♥ Badugi and Loginov Vit collected $638.40 for seventh.

The next victim was jailks, who could not best the three card 5,3,2 shown by raddis89 after three draws. The Dutch jailks got $957.60 for sixth.

The next elimination came five hands later:

Tschillaut earned $1,596 for his fifth-place finish.

Majagua69 was the next to fall at the hand of Smoopika. Majagua69 got all in before the draws and discarded one card thrice while Smoopika stood pat the whole way. Majagua69 showed a three card 6,5,3 at showdown while Smoopika held a J♣ 8♦ 3♥ A♠ Badugi. The Costa Rican majagua69 collected $2,234.40 for fourth.

Over the next half hour, the lead changed hands among all three remaining participants before raddis89 suffered a series of losses that culminated in the Norwegian finishing third for $3,020.90.

DAMIROK and Smoopika entered heads up play virtually even with chips, with just over 5 million each, but Smoopika won several hands in a row to take control and gain an 8-to-1 chip advantage. DAMIROK battled back, however, to get the lead after about 20 minutes of one-on-one poker play. Twenty five minutes later, with the hours growing longer and each player holding about half the chips, the two agreed to a deal to split the money and play for $300 set aside as per tournament regulations and the SCOOP winner’s watch.

Finally, after more than an hour of heads-up action, DAMIROK finished off his worthy opponent in this fashion:
