Sometimes you have to leave Texas for Nebraska.

Or in the poker sense, sometimes you have to try your hand at Omaha instead of Hold’em. The last day before the Spring Championship of Online Poker Main Event on PokerStars featured Event #19 Pot-Limit Omaha.

The $530 buy-in medium event attracted 746 players, creating a $373,000 prize pool. Of those, 108 would be paid with $67,513 going to first.

There were plenty of Team PokerStars pros in the field. Finishes included Barry “barryg1” Greenstein in 38th, Marcin “Goral” Horecki in 79th, Bill Chen in 97th, Greg “Fossil Man” Raymer in 305th, Steve “stevejpa” Paul-Ambrose in 314th, Tom McEvoy in 390th, Victor Ramdin in 446th, Ivan Demidov in 492nd, Gavin Griffin in 560th, Noah “Exclusive” Boeken in 613rd, Katja Thater in 630th and Chad Brown in 631st.

Other notable finishers included PearlJammer in 94th, The Grinder in 279th, Rizen in 353rd, mig.com in 461st, AJKHoosier1 in 557th, Sowerss in 620th and Boosted J in 628th.

After about nine and a half hours the final table was set with these contestants for the Event 19 medium crown (with chip counts):

There was an elimination on the first hand of the final nine. Playing 6,000/12,000 blinds, Whipsaw raised to 36K from the button and melano26 re-raised to 120,000 from the small blind. Whipsaw four bet to put melano26 all-in for another 32K. Whipsaw led with A♣ A♥ K♣ Q♣ against the K♠ K♦ 8♣ 5♣ of melano26 and the board only improved matters with 5♥ A♦ 5♠ 2♥ 7♥ . Melano26 earned $4,774.40 for ninth.

Minutes later this hand gave vvap a big lead at the final table:

The now short-stacked .dfm.dfm. was the next to exit. Playing 10,000/20,000 blinds, acidca raised to 70,000 on the button and .dfm.dfm. called. After a flop of 5♥ K♣ 4♦ . .dfm.dfm. pushed for 86,820 all-in, which represented most of acidca’s stack. Acidca thought for a while and finally called with J♥ 10♦ 8â™  7â™  and was behind the Aâ™  9♦ 8♥ 5♦ held by .dfm.dfm. But the turn and river of 7♦ 10♥ gave acidca two pair to boot .dfm.dfm. in eighth place with a prize of $8,243.30.

Acidca would soon take down another nice pot. Playing the same level, Whipsaw raised to 50,000 from the cutoff and acidca called on the button. After a flop of A♦ 9♣ 6♦ , Whipsaw bet 130,000 and acidca raised to 340,000, which put Whipsaw all-in. Whipsaw made the call with A♠ 9♦ 7♦ 4♦ while acidca had 10♦ 10♣ 3♣ 3♦ . The turn and river came 2♦ 5♣ to give acidca a flush to beat the top two pair of Whipsaw and send this player out of the event with $11,749.50 in their pocket for seventh.

The next elimination would come six hands later. CuongHaMay raised to 75,000 from under the gun and jaeh00d made it 125K to go just to this player’s left. CuongHaMay made an all-in call for another 41K and was ahead with Q♥ Qâ™  8♣ 4♥ versus J♦ J♥ 10â™  A♣ . The community cards were 4♦ 3♦ 3♥ 2â™  Jâ™  to give jaeh00d a winning set of jacks on the river and send CuongHaMay to sleep with a sixth-place prize of $15,479.50.

Horoeschio got his aces snapped off to exit in fifth. This player raised to 87,500 from under the gun and jaeh00d called in the cutoff. After a flop of 9♦ 9♥ 6♣ Horoeschio led out for the pot size of 212,500 and jaeh00d bet enough to put Horoeschio all-in for 62K more. Horoeschio held A♦ A♥ 10♣ 2♣ , but jaeh00d had flopped trip nines with K♠ Q♣ 9♣ 8♠ . The turn 10♠ gave Horoeschio two more outs, but the river J♦ sealed the win for jaeh00d with the straight. Horoeschio collected $19,209.50.

The hand that set the end game in motion happened here, giving vvap a dominating chip lead among the final three:

For finishing fourth acidca received $27,229.

DRGN1 got grinded down low in chips and pushed in against vvap preflop with A♦ 10♣ 7♥ 6♦ only to find himself up against K♦ K♥ A♣ 7♠ . The flop of 8♦ 9♣ 9♠ provided hope with a big straight draw, but the rest of the board bricked off with 3♥ K♠ to give vvap the full house and the hand. DRGN1 collected a hefty $36,367.50 for third.

Going into heads-up play, jaeh00d held a 2 million to 1.73 million chip lead over vvap thanks to turning a flush against vvap’s top two pair in an earlier hand to double up. The two agreed to a chop based on chip count with $6,000 and the SCOOP Champion’s watch left over to play for.

The key hand came minutes later. Jaeh00d raised to 84,500 on the button and vvap called. After a flop of Q♠ 8♦ 2♦ , vvap opened for 120K and jaeh00d called. The turn was the 10♠ , prompting a 320K bet from vvap and another call from jaeh00d. The river was the K♥ and vvap bet 440K and jaeh00d called a third time. The hands were:

jaeh00d K♠ Q♦ 10♦ 6♠
vvap A♠ 3♠ 5♦ 6♦

Both missed their double flush draws and jaeh00d ended up with top two pair to take down this nearly 2 million chip pot. Three hands later vvap committed his tournament life on a board of 3♥ 10â™  7♣ K♦ on the turn with the A♥ Q♥ Jâ™  8♦ after jaeh00d bet with top two pair. The river missed vvap when it came 3â™  . However, vvap still had about 25K in his stack and called it off after typing “you win”.

Jaeh00d won $61,474 for the victory and the watch while vvap got a nice consolation prize of $54,528 – about $6,000 more than he would have without the deal.

Final table placements and payouts included (top two spots reflect the deal made):

First – jaeh00d ($61,474)
Second – vvap ($54,528)
Third – DRGN1 ($36,367.50)

Sixth – CuongHaMay ($15,479.50)
Seventh – Whipsaw ($11,749.50)
