Home / Poker / Stadium Series Wednesday update: Twitch streamer wins, Twitch streamer leads

The Stadium Series Weekly Finals are over, and this week’s heats are intriguing already, with a very familiar Irishman riding high. Here’s the latest from the tables…

STADIUM SERIES NEWS BULLETIN

Fintan “easywithaces” Hand is back at the top

Hand on a High: Fresh from victory in SCOOP, Fintan “easywithaces” Hand is aiming for Stadium Series success — and he’s put himself in prime position to do so in Heat 18 High. Hand sits at the top of the counts with 27 players remaining in this $2,100 buy-in event, which attracted 226 players. With the likes of Mike “SirWatts” Watson, Anatoly “NL_Profit” Filatov, Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot and Niklas “Lena900” Astedt also still involved, this is far from a foregone conclusion. But Hand, who will of course stream everything live on his Twitch channel tonight, has the chance to emulate his fellow Team Pro and Twitch colleague Lex Veldhuis, who won on Stadium Series this week.

Big winners in the huge Weekly Finals: The latest Weekly Finals all wrapped on Tuesday night, with the high buy-in version awarding the biggest prizes of the series so far. The low buy-in event was also the biggest tournament so far in terms of entries, and all three events ended up crowning highly noteworthy champions. Full details below, in “EYE ON THE FINALS” section.

Anjeyyy scoops another: Ukraine’s “Anjeyyy” made a happy habit of running deep throughout the most recent renewal of the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), winning one $5K event for close to a quarter of a million dollars. Replace SCOOP for Stadium Series and Anjeyyy is at it again. Last night he won Heat 17-H, which cost $2,100 to enter but from which he walked away with $98,353.81, including $53,210.93 in bounty payouts. The final table was impossibly tough, featuring Thiago “KKremate” Crema (2nd), Anatoly “NL_Profit” Filatov, Joao “joaovbarb” Barbosa and Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche, to name only the top five. But Anjeyyy was again at his best when he needed to be, and this is another fine victory.

EYE ON THE FINALS

Here’s the lowdown on all those Weekly Finals, which started on Sunday and finished late on Tuesday:

High: Alisson “HeyAlisson” Piekazewicz is relatively well known to us here on PokerStars Blog, having won the Super Tuesday in 2015, been a dominant chip leader before busting 11th in an LAPT event in Sao Paulo, as well as winning a $5,300 side event at the PCA in 2016. But he’s now well known to the wider world too after coming out on top in a Brazilian 1-2 in the $1,050 Stadium Series Weekly Final.

Alisson “heyalisson” Piekazewicz: big Stadium Series winner

Piekazewicz beat his countryman “Pseudo Fruto” to the title after the pair agreed a heads-up deal, with Piekazewicz taking $216,705.18. That’s a good $60K more than Mike “munchenHB” Telker won in last week’s equivalent Weekly Final.

Medium: A little more than 18 months ago, Anthony “Hookz” Kalanj was the only Canadian to make the final table of the Sunday Million, earning $37,964.23 for fifth place and a slightly mournful report on Poker News Canada about the country’s relatively poor showing in the event. However, Canada now has reason to smile again as Kalanj went a significant few places better in the $109 buy-in Stadium Series Weekly Final, rising from seventh in chips overnight to claim the title.

Anthony “hookz” Kalanj ftw

What’s even better is that Kalanj has recently taken to streaming his poker exploits live on Twitch, which meant viewers got to watch it all. That included the part when Kalanj agreed a heads-up against “CoolerAHAH” of Malta before the Canadian sealed the deal. “Champ is here!” he said. Kalanj banked $175,662.60, plus a $5,200 buy-in to the Stadium Series Grand Final. CoolerAHAH won $160,662.60.

Low: There was a four-way deal at the end of the low buy-in Weekly Final, with “lensia” going on to record a famous victory for South Korea. There weren’t too many players involved from the start from the Asian country — only 42 from a starting field of 43,212 — but 11 made the money and “lensia” took most of everyone, ending with $34,114.21. The overnight leader, “Khurshik” of Uzbekistan, finished second for $31,310.48.
