Sunday Warm-Up: valkyri3 slays Jetten for win after two-way deal

March 02, 2014

The spillover from tonight’s extremely successful Sunday Million Eighth Anniversary promotion allowed the Sunday Warm-Up to enjoy a bigger prizepool as well tonight. While not on par with the big brother’s $9.3 million bank with $1.1 million slated for the winner, the $500,000 guarantee Warm-Up would not disappoint with a stacked final table featuring a couple of well-known high stakes live players hoping to land a Sunday Major title. PCA event champ Peter “Apathy123” Jetten would take home $111,057.06 after a two-way deal gave tonight’s champion valkyri3 a total of $117,654.34 for the win.

A little bit after the eight and half hour mark when DrEskilstuna’s ace-ten would fail to catch Apathy123’s big slick, our sizable population of 4,183 player would shrinking into two tables of nine. Seated at Table 148 was a Supernova VIP looking for some redemption after reaching heads-up play in the Sunday Warm-Up just a few weeks ago. Nick “FU_15” Maimone, holding on to a sizable chip stack heading into the final two tables, would be looking for another large five-figure score tonight after nearly winning this tournament on January 26th.

Maimone would head into the ninth hourly break with 17 others including SCOOP 2012 Event #14-H champ Bjorn “kleath” Klethersson and RichieRichZH, who took down the richest Sunday Million ever, (but unfortunately would bust out early during tonight’s special Eighth Anniversary edition) would be in the hunt again tonight after deep Sunday Warm-Up run just a month ago.

A flush over flush run-in with the PCA 2013 Open Faced Chinese champ Peter “Apathy123” Jetten would knock Maimone down to under a million chips with the blinds up to 50K/100K ante 10K as Jetten would use that four million chip pot to jump into the chip lead. Klethersson would take away $3,764.70 in 14th place after back-to-back all-ins preflop had his chips divided between cocojamb0 and Sergio “zcedrick” Aido who was a part of the SCOOP 2013 Main Event-High final table.

Aido unfortunately would not make another major final table tonight. With the blinds up to 65K/130K ante 13K Aido would open shove 2.06 million from the small blind holding 10♥J♠. Peter Jetten with a medium ace A♦8♣ in the big blind and eight million chips behind would make the call. Two pair on the A♥ 8♥ 3♠ Q♥ 7♣ flop was enough for Jetten to cash in another 4.1 million chip pot as the final table started up below:

Seat 1: RichieRichZH (2836838 in chips)
Seat 2: caaaaamel (4663269 in chips)
Seat 3: valkyri3 (7413921 in chips)
Seat 4: Peter “Apathy123” Jetten (10208619 in chips)
Seat 5: iamtheboss12 (2353054 in chips)
Seat 6: cocojamb0 (3494384 in chips)
Seat 7: Danya Kop (5658144 in chips)
Seat 8: po82m (3368799 in chips)
Seat 9: Nick “FU_15” Maimone (1832972 in chips)

In a jam

With the blinds moving up to 100K/200K ante 20K and shortly after the tenth hourly break, shortstacked cocojamb0 would make a move from UTG+1 by pushing for 1.07 million chips as Danya Kop on the immediate left also pushed for 3.5 million holding pocket queens Q♠Q♥. cocojamb0’s A♥4♠ would catch a four but no more on the 4♣ J♣ K♥ J♥ 3♠ board taking away $6,692.80 in ninth place.

valkyri3 slays one

After the fairly slow start to the final table, the 100K/200K ante 20K level proved to be the last one for nearly half the table tonight. Just nine hands after cocojamb0’s leave, RichieRichZH would min-raise from middle position as valkyri3 made it 800K to go from the button. Not to be outdone iamtheboss12 threw 3.5 million chips into the middle with authority. RichieRichZH cowered to the boss but valkyri3 did not and called with pocket fives 5♠5♦. Flipping against iamtheboss12’s big slick A♠K♥ the fives would safely reach the 9♦ 8♣ 10♣ 8♠ 3♥ river. Much like Maimone, iamtheboss12 was a runner-up here in June 2013 looking to take home a win instead iamtheboss12 will claim $10,457.50 in eighth place.

Nick “FU_15” Maimone eliminated in seventh place

A night of possible redemption would end with Maimone taking home a little less than he probably wanted. With the blinds still at 100K/200K ante 20K and six hands after iamtheboss12 was fired, Maimone would throw 1.75 million into the middle from the cutoff as it folded to the chip leader valkyri3 in the big blind. Holding 15 million in chips, valkyri3 had no fiscal issues calling with Q♣K♥ as Maimone’s 10♥A♥ was looking to hold. The ace would get to the river in the lead 10♦ J♠ 6♠ 6♣ Q♥ but the queen on the river shipped the 3.7 million chips to valkyri3 as Maimone took away $18,823.50 in seventh place.

Fast getting faster

Almost a double elimination here as the next hand after Maimone left the stage, RichieRichZH, po82m, and caaaaamel all jumped all preflop to create a 10.1 million chip pot. Watch below for the results:

RichieRichZH was looking for ace holding A♣J♥ as caaaaamel’s 10♥10♠ covered everyone but needed a two-outer against po82m’s pocket kings K♥K♦. No card over a nine would reach the 7♥ 6♦ 5♣ 9♦ 2♣ as po82m claimed the massive 10.1 million chip pot, RichieRichZH would claim $27,189.50 in sixth place, and caaaaamel’s stack would be reduced to 442,996 chips. Two hands later the chip leader would officially knock out caaaaamel in fifth place ($35,555.50) when K♦6♠ could not overcome valkyri3’s 8♥A♣.

Jetten takes over the chip lead

After the blood bath in the 100K/200K ante 20K level, the new 125K/250K ante 25K blinds would finish off the remaining two players to reach heads-up play.

First, WCOOP 2012 Event #60 champ Danya Kop was making headway after doubling up off po82m to over five million chips. Seven hands later, Danya Kop would go after yet another double up after shoving over the top of a min-raise by Jetten. Holding pocket queens Q♠Q♥ the PCA event champ was going nowhere making the call as Danya Kop flipped up pocket nines 9♥9♠. A nine on the flop showed some good fortune, but a queen on the turn 4♦ 10♥ 9♦ Q♣ 5♥ flipped it right back around as Danya Kop earned $47,267.90 in fourth place.

Two hands later valkyri3 would min-raise from the button as po82m shoved from the small blind for 5.7 million. Holding nearly 17 million chips and wanting that chip lead back, valkyri3 made the call with Q♥A♠. Not good news for po82m’s 7♥A♦ as a queen politely took a seat in the middle of the flop 2♣ Q♣ 6♣ K♥ 2♠ knocking out po82m in third place ($69,019.50).

A deal from the phone

The final two both wanted six-figure scores this evening and they would both get it. Jetten, according to the symbol on his avatar, was playing from a smartphone tonight and after squabbling about a few thousand both players came to the deal below leaving $10,000.00 on the table for the champ:

Apathy123: $111,057.06
valkyri3: $107,654.34

Kicker problems

The final two were not about to punt their stacks as they would trade the lead a few times before valkyri3 pulled forward with a 25.7 million to 16 million chip lead going into this hand below:

They would get to the A♥ 6♣ 8♣ 6♠ 5♦ river with 10 million chips already in the middle. Jetten would check as valkyri3 shoved for 20.6 million. Peter thought about the call with 9♦A♦ and finally called as valkyri3 turned up the better kicker A♠K♣ taking in the remaining tournament chip and extra $10,000.00 as tonight’s Sunday Warm-Up champion!
