Home / Uncategorized / Sunday Warm-Up: luetch1 reigns while collecting $96K with title

Once the bridesmaid now the bride as luetch1 claimed tonight’s $500,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up victory. Sometimes it takes a while to get back to the final table of a Sunday Major as proven by luetch1 who was the runner-up here in 2009 claiming $73K after leading wire-to-wire only to lose out heads-up. Tonight was a slightly different story for luetch1 who led for most of the final table then made a big splash at the end to outlast all 3,080 other runners for the $96,745.31 first place prize, and a little overdue redemption.

Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet’s King Louie avatar would be knocking on the door of yet another major PokerStars final table making it, along with 17 others, to the final two tables after eight and half hours of play. Van Fleet captured a Super Tuesday title back in December for $102K would be looking tonight to add a Sunday Warm-Up which eluded him back in 2009 when Van Fleet finished third for $67K.

Another regular at the Super Tuesday tournament, Luke “LFmagic” Fields, nearly won the Sunday Second Chance in July pocketing $27K would go into the ninth hourly break second in chips holding 4.4 million facing 40K/80K ante 8K blinds with 13 others enjoying the five minute snooze. All players looked up at luetch1’s five million chip stack. luetch1 has plenty of late major tournament play experience as show by two 2011 WCOOP final tables including fifth place ($13,865.04) during Event # 46.

The first hand back from the break was not kind for Van Fleet as he shoved 1.09 million over the top of a button min-raise from GoodOldJ. Holding Q♥ A♦ GoodOldJ covered and made the call, dominating Jon’s A♣ 2♣ . Despite some sparks emitting from the two club flop K♣ 5â™  9♣ 10♦ 6♦ Van Fleet was gone in 14th place ($2,865.33).

2012 TCOOP Event #34 champ WorDn would exit in 12th place after aakiss1990 scooped up the scraps after WorDn handed over all but 256,786 chips to aakiss1990 on the previous hand. Shortly afterwards magikpouf would also take home $3,789.63 in 11th place starting up hand-for-hand play.

Despite the quick knockouts after the break, hand-for-hand play would toil on into the 65K/130K ante 13K level. Fields used the bubble time to spin up his chips into the chip lead as luetch1 held court on the adjacent table also pushing people off their min-raises with well-timed three bets. OvertheTop43 saw this strategy and tried to put it to work as well. luetch1 started the hand with a min-raise from the button as OverTheTop43 shoved for 2.39 million from the big blind holding 8♦ J♦ . luetch1 smelled some month-old skunk road kill on the table and made the call with J♣ K♥ . Neither player touched the 6♠ 4♥ 7♠ 4♦ A♦ board as the final table was set below:

Seat 2: LFmagic (7650093 in chips)
Seat 3: GoodOldJ (1833937 in chips)
Seat 4: gilbertogaf (1598930 in chips)
Seat 5: robodonk78 (1939546 in chips)
Seat 6: blowknockout (4122481 in chips)
Seat 7: theBlacking (2333807 in chips)
Seat 8: Vitorbrasil (1608848 in chips)
Seat 9: luetch1 (7883836 in chips)

GoodOldJ disappears

luetch1 would send the chip lead over to LFmagic on the very first hand of the final table after doubling up theBlacking in a 4.8 million chip pot. Three hands later with the blinds at 80K/160K ante 16K Luke Fields played the part of bully and open shoved from the small blind with 3♣ 9â™  . Holding A♣ 10♦ and 1.6 million chips, GoodOldJ made the call. LFmagic turned the lead hand into gold as a nine hit the Q♥ Q♣ 6♣ K♦ 9♦ river to send $4,929.60 GoodOldJ’s way in ninth place.

That’s called a plethora of outs

Finding you are up against aces and then flopping the world gives the game the exciting twinge that keeps us coming back. With the blinds up to 100K/200K ante 20K robodonk78 would open shove for 1.6 million from middle position as it folded to Vitorbrasil on the button with 3.5 million chips and pocket aces Aâ™  A♥ . A second shove got the blinds to fold quickly as robodonk78 flipped up A♣ J♣ immediately flopping straight and flush draws Q♥ K♣ 8♣ . However the turn 6♦ and river 9♦ would miss all those tingly draws ending robodonk78’s night in eighth place ($7,702.50).

Knockout Blow

Just about the time Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari was wishing good luck to Brazilian’s Vitorbrasil and gilbertogaf, blowknockout was trying to challenge a min-raise from luetch1 with a three-bet shove to 3.3 million. Holding pocket tens 10♦ 10♥ luetch1 was eager to get the chip lead back and made the call. blowknockout turned over the acey-deucey 2♦ A♣ and watched the Jâ™  5â™  4♦ 8♦ 7♣ board miss the wheel draw collecting $13,864.50 in seventh place.

Separation

Back-to-back knockouts for luetch1 would launch the chip leader even further away from Fields and theBlacking. With the blinds moving up to 125K/250K ante 25K luetch1 would min-raise from the cutoff as aakiss1990 shoved for 1.63 million and luetch1 quickly called with pocket nines 9♠ 9♦ . aakiss1990 went in search for a lady holding A♦ Q♣ but found none on the K♥ 8♣ 6♥ 7♦ 10♣ board to finish in sixth place ($20,026.50).

On the very next hand, the chip leader gets away with a little larceny. Watch the video below for some theft on the river:

The call was an easy one as gilbertogaf could only raise 156,930 chips in the big blind over luetch1’s min-raise. Despite being dominated with 4♥ Aâ™  versus gilbertogaf’s A♥ 6♣ , the chip leader found a lovely four on the river 8â™  Qâ™  9♥ 5♣ 4♣ to send the Brazilian out in fifth place ($26,379.52).

Black out

Still in the 125K/250K ante 25K blind level theBlacking would make the popular min-raise from the cutoff seat as it folded to Luke “LFmagic” Fields in the big blind. Holding pocket sixes 6♥ 6♣ Luke shoved hoping to dissuade any middling hands from making a call. Pocket eights 8♦ 8â™  were just enough to encourage theBlacking to make the call. 13.1 million chips in the middle was shipped theBlacking’s way after the 10♦ 4â™  Q♣ 5♥ J♣ board provided no relief for Fields who claimed $35,431.50 in fourth place.

Eager to win

Just six minutes later with the blinds moving up to 150K/300K ante 30K luetch1 would put the finishing touches to the Sunday Warm-Up victory. After shooting down Vitorbrasil’s attempt to see some chop numbers, luetch1 would three-bet a min-raise by theBlacking to 1.5 million chips. The two would trade two more bets until 16.1 million chips sat in the middle as luetch1’s pocket eights 8â™  8♥ faced-off against theBlacking’s 3♦ A♥ . Another wheel draw missed as the 9♣ 2♣ 4â™  4♣ 10♥ board shipped the commanding chip lead over to luetch1 as theBlacking collected $51,144.60 in third place.

King Me

No epic comeback or grinding out the victory for luetch1 as the UK player quickly ended Vitorbrasil’s tournament run. Just the second hand of heads-up play Vitorbrasil would call all-in preflop creating a 13 million chip pot. Watch below for the results:

Despite going in with Aâ™  Q♣ versus luetch1’s J♦ K♦ , Vitorbrasil’s hopes of a comeback were dashed by the two kings on the 2♦ K♥ K♣ 4♣ 6♦ flop. Thanks to the timely and polite “no” to chop talks, luetch1 collected the entire $96,745.31 up top and this week’s Sunday Warm-Up title!
