Home / Uncategorized / Sunday Warm-Up: Nec Arg claims $60K and weekly title, Dobson fourth

One break is all some people need to make it in any pursuit. A jazz singer at a dive bar that a major recording manager just happens to be ordering a beer at due to a flat tire. Later notches a multi-million dollar contract from chance meeting. A mail clerk helping a vice president with their Excel spreadsheet problem while handing off some documents. The clerk lands a finance position due to being at the right place and time. Nec Arg would be all-in at the final table of the $400,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up holding a dominated hand preflop going out in seventh place. But, a little luck would get Nec Arg out of that jam and after a two-way deal with benos10, a victory worth $60,650.16.

Check out Nec Arg’s comeback win below.

With the numbers in attendance down a bit (we’ll blame that big tournament going on in Las Vegas as the reason), this Sunday Major reached the final two tables in just seven and a half hours.

One player was rocking to Bon Jovi after picking up a decent sized pot with a flush:

njÃ¥guar said, “whoooooaaaa were half way there
njÃ¥guar said, “livin on a prayerrrrr
njÃ¥guar said, “take my haaaaaaand
njÃ¥guar said, “AND WELL MAKE IT I SWEAR
njÃ¥guar said, “WHOAAA SING IT WITH ME

But, then njåguar would give back some of those chips on the next hand:

njÃ¥guar said, “ok no longer halfway there

If the name sounds familiar, it should, as njåguar snagged the Sunday Million in April and had plenty to say at that time while raking in $183K.

Only 16 players, including the talkative njåguar, remained alive to the $64K sitting up top.

Unfortunately (or not depending if you like table talk and 80s rock music) shortly after the break njåguar would lose a key flip against OFOW (pocket eights losing out to big slick with an ace on the river) and fizzled out three hands later in 15th place ($2,317.25).

Mid-way through the hour we would lose OFOW (13th place, $2,317.25) and MAZACAR1E (14th place, $2,317.25) in back-to-back hands.

On the other end of the chip spectrum, stood Ben “F3nix35” Dobson looking to add another Major final table. As Nick Wright interviewed him at the EPT11 Prague in December, Dobson has final tables in the Sunday Million, Super Tuesday, WCOOP, and SCOOP but missing a Sunday Warm-Up among those big scores.

Recently departed Phil “bergeroo” Huxley (11th place, $3,022.50) said “Gl Ben, take it down!” right before queste’s pocket nines 9♣ 9♦ were all-in against antepia27’s J♦ Aâ™  . An ace on the river 7♣ 8♦ 6♦ 6♥ A♦ would start up the final table below and check off “Sunday Warm-Up” on Dobson’s list.

Seat 1: FL3XEM (1508376 in chips)
Seat 2: antepia27 (3524287 in chips)
Seat 3: Ben “F3nix35” Dobson (1302654 in chips)
Seat 4: benos10 (1183358 in chips)
Seat 5: Nec Arg (1389352 in chips)
Seat 6: Robertino “Maestro Shao” Greco (1959808 in chips)
Seat 7: Mandre123 (3043622 in chips)
Seat 8: Ant160268 (3514893 in chips)
Seat 9: cwirek1982 (2723650 in chips)

In the first two hands, Dobson went immediately to work nabbing the blinds. Four hands later with the blinds up to 40K/80K ante 8K cwirek1982 would raise to 176K as antepia27 and Dobson called out of the blinds. The blinds checked the K♣ K♥ J♣ flop as cwirek1982 bet 276K. Antepia27 called but Dobson check-raised all-in for 1.46 million. Cwirek1982 took the hint and folded by antepia27 made the call with a flush draw 8♣ Q♣ . Club on the turn 5♣ made antepia27’s flush but the second five 5♥ on the river made Dobson’s full house doubling up to 3.8 million.

Benos10 grabbed the rest of antepia27’s chips on the next hand taking home $3,828.50 in ninth place.

A little over ten minutes later benos10 was responsible for another elimination. With the blinds moving up to 50K/100K ante 10K FL3XEM would open shove 1.02 million from the button as benos10 called from the big blind with Aâ™  Qâ™  . FL3XEM’s Kâ™  J♣ found a king-high flush on the river 7♣ 7â™  6â™  4â™  3â™  , but paled in comparison to benos10’s turned ace-high flush. FL3XEM would earn $6,851.00 in eighth place.

Nec Arg would be all-in against Dobson both holding an ace but Dobson with the higher kicker. Nec Arg managed to double up after flopping the kicker and started to spin up that stack from a low of 666K. Ten minutes later with the blinds moving up to 65K/130K ante 13K; Nec Arg would double up again to 2.7 million. Not done there, five hands later Nec Arg would use the newly acquired chips to knock out Ant160268 in seventh place ($10,075.00).

About the time the United States was taking down the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Robertino “Maestro Shao” Greco would fall short of earning another Major title at PokerStars. The 2012 SCOOP Event #6-H champ also final tabled the Sunday Million in February earning $70K in fourth place.

With blinds up to 100K/200K ante 20K Greco would take his chances preflop with pocket eights 8♣ 8♦ against Mandre123’s A♦ Q♥ . An ace on the flop J♦ A♥ 7♣ 9â™  Q♣ sent Greco away in sixth place ($14,105.00).

Just before the tenth hourly break Mandre123 tried to continue the momentum by shoving 1.98 million from the hijack seat as Dobson woke up and re-shoved for 3.66 million. Pocket tens 10♣ 10♦ for Dobson proved to be enough against Mandre123’s eights 8♥ 8♣ on the Aâ™  2♥ A♦ K♦ 7♥ board knocking out Mandre123 in fifth place ($18,135.00).

The five minute break also started up a chop discussion which Dobson expressed some skepticism.

F3nix35 said: “we can look, no promises though

After a quick discussion, Nec Arg was not willing to give up more money just yet and play resumed.

No deal was good for Nec Arg and bad for Dobson.

Chip leader at the break, Dobson’s stack would slowly fritter down to 1.47 million with blinds up to 125K/250K ante 25K. In the cutoff seat, Dobson would shove A♣ 5♦ only to get looked up by benos10’s suited big slick K♦ A♦ . No five 8♥ 4♦ 10♥ J♦ 8♣ to bail him out and Ben “F3nix35” Dobson finished in fourth place ($24,986.00).

A few minutes later benos10 would min-raise from the button as cwirek1982 shoved a Pi-like 3.14 million from the big blind. Holding K♣ 9♣ benos10 made the call as cwirek1982 showed pocket sixes 6♠ 6♦ . One nine on the flop, and another on the turn A♦ 3♦ 9♦ 9♥ 10♠ would sink cwirek1982 in third place ($36,270.00).

Nec Arg and benos10 would play for a couple of minutes before making the deal below (leaving $8K on the table for the winner).

Nec Arg: $52,650.16
benos10: $52,189.84

Despite the close chip counts (10.6 million to 9.5 million) at the time of the deal and relatively low blinds 125K/250K ante 25K, the match would last only 12 minutes.

With Nec Arg stretching the lead 12.4 million to 7.6 million, benos10 made a move preflop with a four-bet shove holding pocket threes 3♥ 3â™  . Nec Arg called with a higher pair 5♦ 5♥ flopping a full house 4♣ 5â™  4â™  to boot. Needing perfect-perfect to win, benos10 got one three 3♣ but not the other K♦ as Nec Arg claimed $60,650.16 and this week’s Sunday Warm-Up title!
