Many players who make the final table of a Sunday Major have been here before. It was no surprise that the Sunday Warm-Up champion this week, papan9_p$, made the final table here last year finishing in sixth place after pocket kings proved to be unreliable. The weekly champ would take away $66,665.12 after splitting up the remaining prize pool with trekotreko and akamas73.

Read on below for papan9_p$ redemption run.

Just after the eighth hour of play the number of tables condensed down to two. A quick glance at the lineup of hopefuls showed a few players with major final table experience.

NutsErryTime claimed the title here in December earning $109K but was forced to nurse a shortstack. With the blinds at 25K/50K ante 5K the former Sunday Warm-Up champ would shove 285K from the small blind holding J♠ Q♦ . Takeurent$ woke up and called with A♠ 7♣ and promptly flopped trips K♥ 7♠ 7♦ 10♥ 6♦ to knockout NutsErryTime in 14th place ($2,550.00).

Hubertus91 nearly made the final table here back in 2012, looking for a better result holding second place chips and only 12 players remaining. Aaron “AaronBeen” Been’s quad eights showed TuRuu TT the door in 12th place ($3,250.00). Aaron has been here before coming in third place for $48K in July 2014 and nearly binked a Super Tuesday in 2011.

Hand-for-hand play would extend for 30 minutes reaching the ninth hourly break. Four hands after returning M1ghtyNO pushed A♥ Q♣ into trekotreko’s big slick K♣ A♦ . Neither player would touch the 6â™  8♥ 4♥ 6♦ 3♣ board as the final table started up below:

Seat 1: AaronBeen (2153050 in chips)
Seat 2: trekotreko (4673180 in chips)
Seat 3: lordjosejose (949386 in chips)
Seat 4: mikeyeomans (4802789 in chips)
Seat 5: papan9_p$ (1092620 in chips)
Seat 6: takeurent$ (2769412 in chips)
Seat 7: Fuel4Ff (1684027 in chips)
Seat 8: akamas73 (2402038 in chips)
Seat 9: Hubertus91 (2713498 in chips)

Akamas73 would draw first blood at the final table scoring a double-up off trekotreko. My grandfather always said “pocket deuces never loses” and akamas73’s deuces found a way to overcome trekoreko’s pocket queens after flopping trips for a 4.6 million chip pot.

Four hands later with the blinds up to 50K/100K ante 10K lordjosejose tried to pick up some quick blinds with an open shove for 843K holding K♥ 8♥ . Unfortunately, mikeyeomans was waiting with Q♣ A♥ and lordjosejose was asked to leave in ninth place ($4,250.00) after the 9♦ Q♥ 10♠ 3♣ 5♣ board came up dry.

Aaron Been would try the same thing 15 minutes later. Been would open shove from the small blind for 3.2 million with 4♦ A♠ . Trekotreko recovering from the early bad beat found pocket tens 10♠ 10♥ and made the call. No ace and three jacks J♣ 5♠ 7♣ J♠ J♥ knocked Been down to under two BBs. Akamas73 would collect the change on the next hand as Aaron Been was finished in eighth place ($7,250.00).

This seems to be a recurring theme as three hands later the same sequence played out. Player open shoves from small blind, big blind looks them up, big blind wins. This time it was takeurent$’s K♦ Q♦ losing to FuelFf’s 7♥ A♣ with an ace on the river Jâ™  Q♣ J♣ 3♣ A♦ earning $12,250.00 in seventh place.

Six-handed play would stretch for 15 minutes as the all-ins finally happened outside of the blinds. With the blinds up to 80K/160K ante 16K Hubertus91 would open from early position with 9♣ A♥ for 632,704 chips as trekotreko contained the excitement of holding pocket kings K♦ Kâ™  and just called. No one took the possible squeeze bait as Hubertus91’s 9♣ A♥ failed to catch the kings J♥ 2♥ 4â™  4♥ J♣ taking away $17,250.00 in sixth place.

Still in the same level back-to-back eliminations would prompt the remaining players to make financial arrangements for the remaining prize pool.

First, mikeyeomans would get the money in good after turning 4♠ K♥ 7♥ 5♠ two pair with 7♣ 5♦ and lulling akamas73 K♣ Q♣ to call a 2.1 million chip shove with a pair. But, the river 4♣ counterfeited the small two pair launching mikeyeomans from the table in fifth place ($22,500.00).

On the next hand with the blinds at 100K/200K ante 20K trekotreko would min-raise from the button as papan9_p$ shoved all-in for 4.3 million holding pocket eights 8♦ 8♣ . Fuel4Ff’s Q♥ A♦ would make the call from the big blind as trekotreko left quickly. The draw did not get there 2♥ J♦ 4♣ 3â™  3♥ as FuelFf ran out of gas in fourth place ($29,250.00).

The players shut the table down for ten minutes to hammer out the three-way deal below leaving $10K for the weekly champ.

akamas73 (Cyprus) $58,339.65
papan9_p$ (Russia) $56,665.12
trekotreko (Portugal) $55,830.23

Shortly after the deal papan9_p$ would cripple akamas73 as papan9_p$ would flop two pair and akamas73’s better kicker became moot as the 15.7 million chip pot went to papan9_p$.

Despite only holding under two BBs after that hand akamas73 would nearly make a comeback.

Akamas73 would double up once then with the blinds still at 100K/200K ante 20K akamas73 would call a bullying shove from the small blind holding big slick Kâ™  A♦ . Papan9_p$’s Q♦ 10♣ would find not one queen but two 8♣ 8â™  Q♣ 9♣ Q♥ overcoming akamas73 once again taking home third place ($58,339.65) chopped money.

Papan9_p$ vs. trekotreko

The heads-up battle that wasn’t.

Two hands later with papan9_p$ holding a 16.6 million to 6.5 million chip lead things got heated after the all-diamond 8♦ 7♦ 10♦ flop. Papan9_p$ would check but check-raise the 336,000 chip bet as trekotreko shoved a flopped flush 4♦ 3♦ . Papan9_p$ could not release the flopped pair and straight flush draw 8♥ 9♦ making the call. The 2♣ turn did not help but the A♦ river shipped $66,665.12 and the weekly Sunday Warm-Up title to papan9_p$!
