Home / Uncategorized / Sunday Warm-Up: tnapoleao lands six-figure score defeating Ysjah heads-up

Finishing a Sunday Major, WCOOP, SCOOP, or TCOOP tournament can be bittersweet. No walking away with the bracelet, watch, or accolades that can go with such a win after defeating sizable and talented fields. Tonight’s $500,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up would come down to two players after ten and a half hours of play. One of which, Ysjah, who was in this very position just last week nearly completed a comeback to win the Sunday Million can be proud of earning $247,170.69 in just two tournaments. But, the comeback for the title was denied for the second straight week as tnapoleao used a sizable stack to quickly eliminate most of the table and claim the $109,963.97 first place prize.

Four Red Spades could be found above the 540 player cutoff to claim part of the $700,400.00 prizepool tonight. PokerStars Greek Challenger Stavros “IDOLLS” Kalfas once again notched a cash at the Sunday Warm-Up after doing so two weeks ago busting tonight in 435th place ($308.17). Team PokerStars Pro Joe Cada would hit the rail shortly after Kalfas, taking in $315.18 in 428th place.

To find the final cashing Red Spades tonight, the climb was much higher as German Team Pro George Danzer claimed $490.28 in 227th place and Marcel Luske, who won the Sunday Warm-Up in December, made another strong showing tonight cashing in 135th place ($770.44).

Two full tables of nine would take a seat for the ninth hourly break and Ysjah and tasos80 enjoyed more than five million chips in their stacks as no other player held more than three million. Ysjah is no stranger to Sunday Major final tables claiming a runner-up finish in last week’s Sunday Million for $165,223.89.

Usually it is the Omaha Sunday Majors where a person would find CSWAMI’s name at the final table, but tonight CSWAMI would come close to adding a Sunday Warm-up. Unfortunately, the chip leader Ysjah wanted extra ammo and CSWAMI caught the wrong end of a preflop flip and was terminated in 16th place ($2,101.20).

After Grasiu and GigaJr busted out in consecutive hands on different tables in 11th and 12th place respectively (both earning $4,202.40), hand-for-hand play started up with blinds at 80K/160K ante 16K. A short time later JJelic would shove all-in for 858,326 getting an insta-call from moumaife84 holding pocket aces A♥ A♣ in the big blind. JJelic’s J♣ Kâ™  was dead by the turn 10♦ 10â™  6♦ 2â™  9♣ as the final table below swung into action:

Seat 1: foundinflood (2157905 in chips)
Seat 2: moumaife84 (3016826 in chips)
Seat 3: Ysjah (3406589 in chips)
Seat 4: sasri (2434715 in chips)
Seat 5: woody1234321 (2280544 in chips)
Seat 6: tnapoleao (9632184 in chips)
Seat 7: user223 (1952745 in chips)
Seat 8: tasos80 (9122616 in chips)
Seat 9: nevezu4iy (1015876 in chips)

Two and out

On the second hand of the final table a three-way preflop all-in broke loose between tnapoleao, foundinflood, and woody1234321. All three found pocket pairs but foundinflood’s aces A♥ Aâ™  reigned over tnapoleao’s tens 10♦ 10♣ and shortstacked woody1234321’s sevens 7♣ 7♥ . The two pair board Q♣ 8♦ 8â™  Jâ™  Q♥ missed everyone shipping the 6.4 million chip main pot to foundinflood as woody1234321 had nothing left to finish in ninth place ($5,603.20).

Ace of spades causes another costly night

It’s not just a $275,000 bottle of champagne in the VIP room at a nightclub but the ace of spades can be destructive to poker player’s bankrolls on the felt as well. With the blinds moving up to 125K/250K ante 25K nevezu4iy would shove for 967,876 chips from middle position as YsJah re-shoved for 2.13 million holding 10â™  A♣ . Pocket fours 4♥ 4â™  for nevezu4iy looked to be safe after the 8â™  Q♦ 8♦ K♦ turn but the ace of spades on the river Aâ™  sent nevezu4iy packing in eighth place ($8,755.00).

Blinds up, two players out

Back-to-back eliminations would shrink the final table population quickly. First, with the blinds moving up to 150K/300K ante 30K two small stack got their meager funds into the middle preflop. foundinflood could not build off that huge six million chip pot earlier and was ground down to 1.17 million and decided to shove from the button holding J♣ Kâ™  . moumaife84 found an ace 6â™  A♦ in the small blind and also shoved for 1.56 million. The two pair board 9â™  9♦ 5♥ 5♦ 10♣ hit neither player’s hand to send moumaife84 off in seventh place ($15,759.00).

On the next hand user223 decided to raise to 684,555 as sasri shoved from the big blind for 1.8 million holding A♥ 5♥ . user223 turned over J♦ K♣ and was rewarded with a king on the flop 9♣ K♥ 4♣ 8♦ 4♥ as sasri was asked to leave in sixth place ($22,763.00).

Back-to-back-to-back-to-back? Almost.

After tasos80 picked up the blinds, the Sunday Warm-Up field would go from seven to three in just five hands. Two hands after sasri’s elimination, moumaife84 would shove for 3.16 million chips from the hijack seat holding a suited connector 6♦ 7♦ . The chip leader tnapoleao had zero problems making the call from the button holding pocket aces A♥ A♦ . The second queen on the turn 4♥ 2♥ Q♣ Qâ™  9♣ would seal up the win for tnapoleao as moumaife84 earned $29,767.00 in fifth place. Not the first major final table for moumaife84 after earning $36,300.00 in sixth place at WCOOP 2013 Event #40

Not done with getting premium hands, tnapoleao went after more in the next hand shown in the 19.4 million chip pot below:

tasos80 would show big slick K♠ A♦ as the chip leader turned up pocket queens Q♠ Q♥ . No card above a ten on the 10♠ 9♠ 2♦ 7♥ sent the largest pot of the tournament to tnapoleao as tasos80 claimed $40,273.00 in fourth place.

The 150K/300K ante 30K just may claim the rest of the field as tnapoleao now held 24.5 million to Ysjah’s five million and user223’s 5.4 million. Staying aggressive, tnapoleao would min-raise from the button as user223 would shove for the shorten stack holding a couple of hearts 10♥ 6♥ . tnapoleao was not bullying the table on this one and flipped up the legit Q♦ A♥ . Both players paired the flop, but tnapoleao put out user223 for good with the rivered A♦ 10♣ 9♣ K♥ J♦ broadway straight. user223 from Belarus would earn $57,783.00 with the third place finish.

Runner-up again?!?!

$81,946.80 is a lot of money for most human beings. A yearly (maybe even two) salary, a decent chunk of a mortgage, or it is runner-up money in a PokerStars Sunday Major. Ysjah fought from being a final table shortstack to make it to heads-up play for a Sunday Major title for the second week in a row. Unfortunately, the 30.2 million to 4.7 million chip deficit would prove to be too much. Just five hands into the final two Ysjah would pick the spot below to double-up or claim another sizable runner-up check:

A suited connector 6♦ 7♦ for Ysjah as tnapoleao made the call from the big blind holding Jâ™  Kâ™  . Both players whiffed on the 8♥ 2♥ 3â™  10♥ A♣ board as tnapoleao took away $109,963.97 as this week’s Sunday Warm-Up champion!
