Home / Uncategorized / Super Tuesday: Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier stays hot with $44K win (10-31-17)

It’s been a good year at the PokerStars tournament tables for Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier. He doubled his collection of COOP titles in September, converting on a quarter of his WCOOP 2017 final table appearances with one NLHE win and one Stud win during the series and finishing in third place on the Player of the Series leaderboard for a nice cash bonus. Tonight he kept his 2017 hot streak going, surviving a few very close calls against a table full of tough competitors before making a three-way deal and locking up his first career Super Tuesday title.

Fresh_oO_D’s path to this week’s final table was a relatively breezy one. He first claimed the chip lead with 66 players left and the money bubble still off in the distance. Other players moved ahead but he maintained an above-average stack for the next three hours as the field trickled down to just 12 players. Then he min-raised with K♦ K♥ in the cutoff seat and got two callers. One of them was past Sunday Million runner-up kdrAS, whose J♥ 10♦ made top pair in the big blind when the flop came 2♣ 9♦ 10♣ . Fresh_oO_D jammed on the river and doubled to 1.33 million chips. Another win on the bubble with A♣ 9♣ against past Sunday Million finalist MrIonV’s Kâ™  J♦ solidified Fresh_oO_D’s lead as the final table began:

Seat 1: Fred “fred_volpe” Volpe (418,554 in chips)
Seat 2: Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier (1,545,894 in chips)
Seat 3: Jordan “JWPRODIGY” Westmorland (776,823 in chips)
Seat 4: Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil (605,911 in chips)
Seat 5: maximilian74 (850,069 in chips)
Seat 6: gnetaren (520,334 in chips)
Seat 7: Paul “_pauL€FauL_” Höfer (904,632 in chips)
Seat 8: TLO-Mek (1,140,117 in chips)
Seat 9: Kurt “kurt23x” Fitzgerald (362,666 in chips)

The 10,000/20,000/2,000 blinds and antes left some room for even most of the shorter stacks to maneuver when the final table started. Between that and the more desperate players coming out on the winning side of coin flips and dominated-ace situations, it took an hour and five minutes before the first player was eliminated – and even then the hands dictated the play. Past Sunday Million and WCOOP finalist TLO-Mek, whose stack had been reduced to just a few big blinds, opened the action all-in with 7♣ 7â™  and lost out in ninth when past Sunday Million and Super Tuesday finalist maximilian74’s K♥ Kâ™  remained uncracked after the river.

Past Sunday Million and Super Tuesday finalist Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil’s K♣ Kâ™  pulled off a similar feat on the next hand. Past Super Tuesday champ Jordan “JWPRODIGY” Westmorland moved in for five and a half blinds with Jâ™  10♥ and made a pair of tens on the 3♦ 10♣ A♦ 9♥ 2♥ board, exiting in eighth.

Fresh_oO_D looked likely to exit – but the flop gave him two pair.

Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier had lost about half the chips he brought to the final table during that first hour of play, and he looked likely to exit on the next orbit after the first two knockouts. He re-raised all-in for 538,211 chips with Kâ™  Q♣ and was called by past Super Tuesday runner-up Fred “fred_volpe” Volpe, who had opened the betting with a dominant A♦ K♥ . But the 7♦ Qâ™  K♣ flop gave Fresh_oO_D two pair and the 1.15-million chip pot, good enough for third place at that point.

The seeds of the next two knockouts were planted four hands later when four-time past Super Tuesday finalist gnetaren doubled to 1.27 million chips with 9♣ 9♦ against takechip’s A♦ Qâ™  . gnetaren was dealt A♦ A♥ in the big blind on the next hand and simply checked after maximilian74 limped from the small blind. gnetaren flopped a full house, then sat back on it until maximilian74 moved in on the river of the 7â™  7♣ Aâ™  2♥ 5♦ board with K♣ K♥ . The deception sent maximilian74 packing in seventh.

takechip had been left with 561,039 chips after the loss two hands earlier, and the 20,000,40,000/4,000 blinds and antes reduced his stack to just half of that by the time he picked up Aâ™  10♦ and moved in under the gun 20 minutes later. gnetaren called in the hijack seat with another pocket pair – this time J♦ J♣ – and it held up unimproved to send takechip to the rail in sixth.

That win put gnetaren within view of the leaders with 1.4 million chips, about 12 big blinds back of Fresh_oO_D and 22 blinds back of past Super Tuesday runner-up Paul “_pauL€FauL_” Höfer. Then _pauL€FauL_ was dealt Q♣ Q♥ in the cutoff seat and picked off two streets’ worth of bluffs from Fresh_oO_D on a J♦ 3♥ 5♥ 3♣ K♥ board to earn a 1.78-million-chip pot that made him the clear leader.

The two shortest-stacked players would both double up in the next 15 minutes, but past Sunday Million and SCOOP-Medium Main Event finalist Kurt “kurt23x” Fitzgerald couldn’t pull the feat off twice. He stayed alive with A♥ A♣ against gnetaren’s Aâ™  8â™  before jamming in the cutoff seat with Aâ™  7â™  and having gnetaren call with 7♦ 7♥ in the big blind. The board was all blanks by the river and kurt23x was out in fifth.

gnetaren was able to steal the blinds and antes once in the next 10 minutes but otherwise didn’t win a pot. Then the Swede called with K♥ J♥ in the big blind, all-in for 11 big blinds after _pauL€FauL_ open-shoved for the second consecutive hand. _pauL€FauL_ had 2♦ 2♥ and watched the board fall 3♥ 9♦ 8♣ 4♣ 5♥ , keeping the deuces ahead and knocking out gnetaren in fourth.

Three players remained now – and one of them was seeing double.

Fresh_oO_D: “u are a smart human
fred_volpe: “see numbers?
_pauL€FauL_: “lets see yea 🙂

It took a bit of negotiation but eventually they came to an agreement that left $6,000 in play for the winner. On the second hand back fred_volpe opened the betting all-in with A♥ 7♥ and _pauL€FauL_ called with Q♦ J♦ ; the favorite won and suddenly _pauL€FauL_’s lead was down to just six big blinds. Three hands later Fresh_oO_D erased fred_volpe’s gains, doubling to 2.98 million chips through the button-raising Brazilian’s K♥ 10♥ with A♦ 9♣ and leaving fred_volpe vulnerable once again.

Three hands later fred_volpe min-raised on the button with A♣ 10♠ and _pauL€FauL_ called in the big blind, bringing a 3♥ Q♠ 3♣ flop. fred_volpe bet 86,400 chips when checked to and then called when _pauL€FauL_ check-raised to 197,465. He called again with a pair of tens on the 10♣ turn, this time all-in for 682,371, only to find out that _pauL€FauL_ had flopped trips with J♣ 3♦ . The 2♠ fell on the river and fred_volpe departed in third.

The last two players stared each other down across the virtual felt – and saw in each other themselves.

Fresh_oO_D said, “flip next.” “kk,” replied _pauL€FauL_, and they both moved in before the flop on the next hand, _pauL€FauL_ with Q♣ J♥ and Fresh_oO_D with the dominated J♣ 2â™  . The flop of the 5♣ K♦ 2♦ 7♣ 4♥ board gave Fresh_oO_D the pot and the lead, 5.7 million to 1.4 million. They did it again and _pauL€FauL_ doubled on the next hand, hitting a pair of sixes on the flop with J♣ 6♥ to top Fresh_oO_D’s K♦ 5♣ , but the third flip was the one that ended the fun. _pauL€FauL_ jammed on the button with K♥ 8♦ , Fresh_oO_D called with Aâ™  3♣ in the big blind, and the board came 7â™  2♥ 4â™  6♦ Q♥ to bring the tournament to a close.

Paul “_pauL€FauL_” Höfer walked with the biggest share of the three-handed chop, while Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier grabbed the extra cash and the title for his late come-from-behind victory. Congratulations to both of them, and to Fred “fred_volpe” Volpe for sharing in the three-handed deal!
