The sun is shining brightly over the wonderful city of Melbourne as another beautiful Winter’s day is upon us. It’s Sunday morning. For many, that spells a sore head and an empty wallet after a serious night on party town (Chaise Lounge anyone?). However regardless of the damage done the night before, one of the favourite pastimes for Melbournites is the Sunday morning breakfast. And we use the word “breakfast” loosely as it’s probably more like a brunch. It really doesn’t matter what time of the day you rise, as venturing to the local cafe strip on a Sunday is all about the experience.

Melbourne is well known for having some of the best restaurants and cafes in the world. The alleyways of the central business district may look a bit intimidating for a first-time visitor with the graffiti-covered walls and narrow walkways. But once you get to know the best nooks in the city, these alleys develop a charm and character all of their own. And by 11am on a Sunday morning they will be bustling with people ordering an extra-strong coffee.

While many of our visitors to the PokerStars.net APPT Melbourne Main Event will be able to get out and about and enjoy a relaxing Sunday morning, there are 37 nervous players who will be looking for a quick bite to settle their stomachs before heading to the Crown Casino for a big day ahead. It’s tough having to go to work on a Sunday (tell me about it!) but for these 37, the job is far from done.

When play kicks off at 12:10pm local time, there will be nine players who will go home for their three days of efforts with nothing but a story to tell, with only our top 28 players finishing in the green. The bubble play will certainly provide some interesting moments this afternoon. Not only because of the fact that the short stacks will be playing cat and mouse trying to survive, but because at the other end of the charts, we have some of the most hyper-aggressive big stacks you’ll ever see.

James Obst is leading the charge for the locals at the APPT Melbourne

We’re guessing that Phil Willcocks, James Obst and Koray Turker aren’t going to sit back and let the dead money be passed around the table when the action gets tight. It could create a fascinating dynamic, especially with all three commencing today on the same starting table.

Yesterday was dominated by the Kiwis but can the “All Blacks” carry their form all the way to the final table? It won’t be easy with the likes of Julius Colman, Michael Guzzardi, Mitch Carle, Leo Boxell, Ricky Kroesen, two-time ANZ Player of the Year Tony Hachem and 2008 APPT Manila Main Event winner Van Marcus all still lurking in the field.

The good news is that whatever happens today, we’re going to have ourselves a cracking final table line up tomorrow!

Join the PokerStars Blog from 12:10pm (GMT+10) today as we bring you all the live updates from the Crown Poker Room here at the PokerStars.net APPT Melbourne Main Event.
