It’s another picture postcard day here in Queenstown, New Zealand and although the good weather means the snow is starting to defrost, the action is certainly not slowing down.

One of the first activities we tried our hand at in Queenstown was the world-famous Skyline gondola ride. A short five-minute stroll from the heart of the town, the gondola is believed to be one of the steepest lifts in the Southern Hemisphere rising up 450 metres in just a few short minutes. And once you’re at the top, the views are truly breathtaking with a spectacular view of Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables mountain ranges.

Of course, the ride doesn’t end there. Once you get to the stop there’s plenty of fun stuff to do beside taking photos. There are walking tracks or mountain bike rides, and there’s a casual cafe for a quick snack or their extremely popular restaurant which offers a mouthwatering buffet lunch or dinner and nightly Haka demonstrations.

After consuming your own body weight in prawns, there’s nothing better to do than to leap off the side of a mountain. Just make sure you have a rope attached. AJ Hackett Bungy pioneered this devilish form of entertainment right here in Queenstown. When you’re plummeting towards the Earth with your life flashing before your eyes, it’s all about the view right? While there are many locations around the region to jump, the view from “The Ledge” is definitely hard to top.

However we weren’t quite that brave, and instead settled for the Skyline Luge which is a great activity for a group of prop-betting poker buddies looking to air out their frustrations Mario Kart style! There are beginner and advanced tracks, and you can certainly build up some speed as you navigate your way through the bumps and bends.

It’s an activity that will resonate well with poker players as the luge is much like the ride they experience in a poker tournament. Some will start well with plenty of speed, while a few will be off the track before the first corner. There will be some hills, some twists, some turns and probably a few crashes. Ultimately there can only be one winner in this race, but it will be an adventure along the way.

We hope to bring you every bump and bruise today from the SKYCITY Casino here in Queenstown as Day 1b of the PokerStars.net APPT Queenstown Snowfest Main Event kicks off. Some of the big boys have arrived into town and today we’re expecting to see the likes of Dan Neilson, Jonathan Karamalikis, Michael Pedley, Andy Hinrichsen, Daniel Laidlaw, Hugh Cohen, Julian “Defending Champ” Cohen and Team PokerStars Pro Joe Hachem.

The action kicks off at 12:30pm (GMT+12) so keep your browser locked into the PokerStars Blog as myself and Landon Blackhall bring you all the action live as it happens from the tournament floor.
