Home / News / Twitch Poker Tribune: Lex Veldhuis doesn’t go quietly into the night (or vanish without a fight)

The Twitch Poker Tribune is a weekly blog bringing you the latest news and best clips of the week from the world of Twitch poker, as well as shining a light on streamers you should check out.

THIS WEEK:

  • Lex loomed largest on stacked Sunday High Roller FT ($33K)
  • Tonkaaaa claims Cooldown crown ($19K)
  • Clips of the week

SUNDAY WAS LEX’S INDEPENDENCE DAY (WHATEVER THAT MEANS)

A Sunday session in the world of Twitch Poker rarely disappoints, even when we’re in between the major online series.

And if you were tuning in on July 4th–Independence Day–you would have witnessed a performance from Lex Veldhuis worthy of the President’s speech from the 1996 blockbuster movie:

“We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive!”

You see, Lex had reached the final table of the prestigious and always tough $1K Sunday High Roller. He was low in the chip counts when the FT kicked off, and his opponents…well, let’s just say they were a talented bunch.

Not only was he up against his fellow PokerStars Team Pros Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot and Sam “samsquid” Grafton, he also had to deal with crushers like Bert “girafganger7” Stevens, Jan “graftekkel” Arends, Ole “wizowizo” Schemion, Simon “Igorkarkarof” Pedersen, Joris “BillLewinsky” Ruijs, and Stevan “random.chu” Chew.

He was fortunate to see off Grafton in sixth ($9K).

Lex and Tonkaaaa, while good friends away from the tables, were after each other’s blood.

It was actually Lex who busted Tonkaaaa in third for just shy of $20K.

Lex then picked up this huge heads-up pot to take a commanding lead.

In the end, Lex won a big flip to take it down.

Who has two thumbs and won the $1K High Roller for $33,265?

This guy.

TONKAAAAA WINS THE COOLDOWN FOR $19K

Here we are again. Another Thursday, another Twitch Poker Tribune, and we’re telling you about another big score for Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot.

Before the PokerStars Team Pro finished third in the aforementioned $1K High Roller for ~$20K, he’d already claimed a trophy, defeating a 59-entry field to win the $1K Sunday Cooldown (Turbo PKO) for $19,414 ($6,961 for 1st + $12,453 in bounties).

Tonkaaaa pulled off the big plays when he had to.

And gladly accepted donations when they came his way.

Ultimately, he got the job done by eliminating Juan “MalakaStyle” Pardo heads-up.

All in all, Tonkaaaa banked around $40K on his Sunday sesh. Not too shabby.
