Astedt wins Year of the Arena
The Big 20 Rewind has reached its final weekend. Saturday’s event was the Year of the Arena and, with a $5,200 buy-in, this was one for the high rollers – 54 of poker’s greatest took to the tables, some re-entering to make 78 entries and a $390k prize pool.
Among the elite final table players were Christian “WATnlos” Rudolph, Mike “SirWatts” Watson, Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira and Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi, but none of these top ranked pros made the final three. Lesser known “mbukilic” of Montenegro came third for $59,053, and “waldermarundich” of Sweden came second for $78,843.
After firing a second bullet, Niklas “Lena900” Astedt took down the tourney, adding $105,264 to his incredible online record of over $22 million in online cashes. One more under the belt for the famous Swede.
Big 20 Side Event brings biggest cash of weekend
You might think that Astedt’s $100k cash was the biggest of the weekend, but it was one of the Big 20 side events that took the spotlight. Running Sunday, the $5,200 Titans tourney attracted 155 entrants who battled it out for a share of $775k.
Again the final table was tough. Team Pro Twitch streamer Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot made the final table, cashing eighth for $27,104. Rui Ferreira was once again present (fifth for $50k), as was Patrick “pads1161” Leonard (fourth for $75k). “pintoelbajon” of Uruguay came third for $97k.
At the top end of the table, Finnish pro Eelis “EEE27” Parssinen came second for $125,932, bested only by WCOOP and Stadium Series winner “Pol536”, who took it down to earn their biggest ever score of $162,674.
Simon Mattsson crushes High Roller Club
Over in the High Roller Club, several players stood out for multiple cashes. Sweden’s “WhatIfGod” won the $215 NLO8 Sunday Supersonic for $4,237 and also came second in the $1,050 Sunday Supersonic for $14,428.
“krestnyotez” of Russia, a player who’s results are hidden, earned a tidy double first place – taking down the slow structured $530 Sunday Marathon for $9,582, and then coming first in the polar opposite $1,050 Sunday Supersonic for $21,784.
None impressed so much as Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson, who landed on no less than five final tables over the course of the weekend, including two first places. Here’s a rundown of his scores:
- First place in Saturday’s $530 Daily Supersonic for $7,397
- Second in Sunday HR for $26,945 following heads-up deal
- First in $1,050 Sunday Cooldown for $23,124 (inc. $14k bounties)
- Third in Sunday Supersonic for $9,556
- Fourth in $215 NLO8 Sunday Supersonic for $1,711
Total final table winnings: $68,793
