UKRAINE’S “555AU” WINS NEW BUY-IN $109 SUNDAY MILLION FOR $136K

PokerStars hoped that by lowering the Sunday Million buy-in from $215 to $109, it would make the biggest weekly tournament available to a greater number of players whilst not compromising the $1M GTD prize pool. Yesterday’s massive event ticked all the boxes.

15,550 entries ✔
$1,555,000 prize pool ✔
$136,892 first-place prize ✔

Congratulations to the Ukraine’s “555AU” who took home that winner’s purse, with no deal. After 14 hours of play they defeated Brazil’s “Kmarao-Vix” heads-up to claim the coveted title and a six-figure payday.

Lex Veldhuis, who had a big Sunday himself (see below), shared his thoughts on the new buy-in.

“It was really great to see the kick-off edition of the $109 Sunday Million smash the guarantee. The fact the prize-pool got up to $1.5m shows the reach is much bigger now and it’s easier for a lot of people to register.

“Every time I was moved to a different table I had 5 or 6 people at the table I’ve never played with before. I hope this trend continues and it’s exciting to see where this goes.”

LEX WINS THE WARM-UP FOR $34K LIVE ON TWITCH

While the Sunday Million attracted 15,550 entries, PokerStars Ambassador Lex Veldhuis was being watched by just as many as he took down the $215 Sunday Warm-Up live on his Twitch stream.

The win was the culmination of an almost 16-hour epic stream, and saw Veldhuis win $34,690. With 30 players left Lex took the chip lead, and he didn’t slip from the two spots thereafter, entering the final table with a dominating stack.

Defeating Jonathan “Proudflop” Proudfoot heads-up ($24,942) after just a single hand, the final table also included Tom “Jabracada” Hall (8th – $3,446) and Charlie “JIZOINT” Combes (9th – $2,477).

You can read all about Lex’s big win, and check out the Twitch clips, right here.

Stay tuned to PokerStars Blog today and the rest of the week as Lex will be breaking down why he loves new game format 6+, before playing in a streamed cash game on Wednesday against other PokerStars pros.

LIV AND IGOR CASH IN HRC

PokerStars Ambassadors Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov were both on the grind yesterday, predominantly in High Roller Club events. When all was said and done, both had secured healthy cashes.

Liv Boeree and Igor Kurganov

Boeree had a deep run in the $2,100 Sunday High Roller, arguably one of the toughest events of the weekend schedule. She’d ultimately finish in 12th place for $5,710, while Luke “Bit2Easy” went on to take it down for $52,166.

Kurganov too had a deep run at the end of the night, finishing eighth in the $1,050 Sunday Supersonic for $6,790. Austria’s “Tankaza” won that one for $45,736.

JEN SHAHADE ANNOUNCES NEW PODCAST
