The latest EPT Online festival concluded late on Tuesday night with a sensational Main Event title defence for Sweden’s “WhatIfGod“.

The much-respected online tournament specialist (pictured above collecting a pair of WCOOP bracelets in 2014) won the exact same event during last November’s EPT Online festival, which came with a prize of more than $1 million, and this year won it once again, for another $363,641. There were 402 entries costing $5K apiece, and WhatIfGod needed to beat a stellar final table, featuring two PokerStars ambassadors, to secure this incredible result.

Ramon Colillas, the PSPC champion, finished second, defeated after a long heads-up battle with WhatIfGod. Colillas, who also made a deep run in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event this year, was the chip leader at the end of Day 1 and Day 2, but had to settle for $363,641 for second. WhatIfGod was the dominant force at the final, knocking out Benjamin “bencb789” Rolle in seventh, Bruno “great dant” Volkmann in sixth and Christian “WATnlos” Rudolph in third. (Rolle is also a PokerStars ambassador.)

The final hand came when WhatIfGod made a rivered flush and Colillas called off his remaining chips with two pair.

WhatIfGod also won the so-called Series Saver event on Monday night, earning $80,503 for beating a field of 401 entries in that $1,050 tournament. But it’s his back-to-back Main Event wins that will continue to hog the headlines. Remember, nobody has ever pulled off that kind of achievement in the live EPT arena, where there have only ever been two double-champions, both with several years between successes. WhatIfGod has won the first two EPT Online Main Events.

REVIEWING EPT ONLINE

The EPT Online festival, which ran from Wednesday, December 8 through Tuesday, December 21, was hastily arranged after the 11th-hour cancellation of EPT Prague, in response to the ongoing pandemic. Many of the players who would presumably have been heading to the Czech Republic turned instead to their laptops for a two-week series of 68 tournaments, plus side events. The schedule included a so-called “mini” version, which mirrored the higher buy-in events but with entry fees only a fraction of the size.

In all, there were 279,983 tournament entries (inc. 90,249 re-entries) across the series, and prize pools hit $23,735,390. Winners were paid $3,859,775, including bounties.

The biggest prize pool outside the Main Event was in the Mini Event 12, a $109 buy-in hold’em tournament, which attracted 13,433 entries. It was won by Russia’s “Shemowna“, who picked up $103,742 including bounties. The biggest event in terms of entries was an $11 NLHE tournament billed as the “Return of Arena” mini. There were 21,020 entries to that one, including 7,281 re-entries, and it was won by Brazil’s “danielwarwar“. The victory was worth $16,446 after a deal.

WhatIfGod was one of three players to win two titles during the festival. Samuel “€urop€an” Vousden and Audrius “Stakelis24” Stakelis also managed two wins.
