If fate has designs on stopping Vanessa Selbst’s run for a WSOP championship bracelet, it’s not yet figured out a plan that works. After four days of play, Selbst is one of the top chip stacks as the remaining 5% of the field fights for the final table. She, Jan Heitmann, Marcel Luske, and Daniel Negreanu, all popular horses in the PokerStars stable, are all in the top 282 players headed to Day 5.

As we’ve noted more than a couple of times over the last week, Selbst was the only member of Team Pro to win a gold bracelet during this year’s World Series. What’s more, the $446,605 that she banked made her the winningest Team Pro this summer. So it comes as a surprise to exactly no one that she is leading the charge. She is Vanessa Selbst, and winning is what she does.

Vanessa Selbst leading Team Pro to Day 5 of WSOP

Day 4 had barely started when the money bubble burst. It took just one hand of hand-for-hand-play to get the tournament back underway. What resulted was nothing short of an orderly procession of several hundred players who were happy to get paid for a week’s worth of work in Las Vegas.

With the celebration of the money came a benediction for a small crew of Team Pros who made it to the cash, but couldn’t make it to the end of the day. Booking their trips home tonight are Jason Mercier (659th place, $19,227), The Rousso House’s Liv Boeree (631st place, $19,227), and Salvatore Bonavena (474th place, $24,808). Congratulations to all of them, as well as PokerStars Main Event Passport winners Zhi Pan and Fabrice Bachellez who both finished in the money today.

Finally we wish to congratulate Mark Demirjian, the PokerStars Main Event Passport winner who went the deepest in this year’s Main Event. After winning a $700 Passport and turning it into a $13,000 trip to the WSOP, Demirjian won more than $30,000.

Though we’ve reached a point at which every hand matters and the anticipation couldn’t get much higher, it’s time to take a break. Apparently everyone needs a quick laydown before we resume the fun.

So, we wait. It all kicks off again tomorrow at noon ET. Join us back here to see if Team Pro can survive another day and make a run for the final table.
