The 2020 World Championship of Online Poker is over. But some moments from the 225-tournament series are sticking with us.
Check out these five unforgettable ones from the 2020 WCOOP, with a few details for each below:
#5: Just call him Big Call Beresford
Event: #33-H, $5,200 NLHE 8-Max, High Roller
Players: Luke “Bit2Easy” Reeves and Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford
In this heads-up hand, Reeves bet one-third pot on the river after having only paired his deuce to go with the pair of sixes on the nine-high board. Beresford had a nine in his hand and the better two pair and raised. Then Reeves responded with a huge overbet, forcing Beresford to commit his entire stack if he were to call. Eventually Beresford did call, and soon after that took the title.
#4: Big fold by van den Bijgaart
Event: #61-H, $1,050 NLHE 6-Max, PKO
Players: Narcis “Narcisus90” Nedelcu and Joep “Pappe_Ruk” van den Bijgaart
At four-handed van den Bijgaart picked up pocket aces and flopped a set, but his opponent Nedelcu flopped a club flush. They made it to the river where Nedelcu shoved, and somehow van den Bijgaart was able to get away. After preserving chips there, van den Bijgaart went on to capture the win.
#3: Never mind heads-up
Event: #63-H, $2,100 NLHE 8-Max, PKO, Thursday Thrill SE
Players: “BenArfaa10, “Il-Giuglia”, and “luelue399”
With three left, “luelue399” was dealt pocket tens and had the other two opponents covered. That’s when a three-way all-in erupted, and the pair held to give “luelue399” a couple more bounties and the title.
#2: A royal for “raconteur” and a check-check river
Event: #37-H, $5,200 PLO 6-Max, High Roller
Players: Christopher “lissi stinkt” Frank, Richard “raconteur” Gryko, and “jedimaster82”
Another three-way hand, this one coming on Day 2 of the PLO High Roller. With Frank already all-in, Gryko flopped a Broadway straight and flush redraw while jedimaster82 had top set of kings. The turn paired the board to give jedimaster82 a full house, but the same card gave Gryko a royal flush. Gryko checked the river to jedimaster82, and the latter must have used the force in order just to check back and avoid losing more chips.
#1: “PTFisherman23” rivers straight, reels in Main title
Event: #72-H, $5,200 NLHE 8-Max, Main Event
Players: Andre “PTFisherman23” Marques and Tonio “prrrak4783” Röder
On the final hand of the “High” version of the Main Event, Marques rivered a straight and put Röder to the test with an all-in shove. Röder had paired his six to make two pair with the nines on board, and after tanking called and it was all over.
