It was five years ago on a hot August afternoon when it occurred to me that the PokerStars Blog needed a Twitter account. I’d been using Twitter since July 2007 (first under a pseudonym and eventually switching to @BradWillis), and it was developing into a serious medium for reporting. With a few keystrokes, I created @PokerStarsBlog.

PokerStars was still getting its social media footing back then, so it took a little time to get everyone on board with the idea of using Twitter to communicate with you. But it happened, and, boy, did you folks flock.

Fast forward to this weekend. I was out galavanting in the mountains when PokerStars’ Editor-in-Chief @MrSimonYoung noticed you (and we) were about to hit a milestone.

In the past couple of days, a few hundred more of you showed up, and today we look like this.

Now, we’re not going to pretend 50,000 is a huge number of Twitter followers compared to some others, but it’s a milestone for a site like ours that reports on a fairly niche market.

If you already read this blog, there’s a good chance you already follow us on Twitter and know what our coverage is like. But if not, you should think about doing so. We don’t tweet too much, and Twitter is the fastest way to see our new coverage from every live event we attend, as well as all the big online stories we report on every day.

So, to all of you who have joined us over the past five years, thank you. For all of you who just arrived in the last few days, welcome. And for all of you who don’t know what this is all about, click this and see what you think: @PokerStarsBlog.

(By the way, that headline is a Sally Field reference, which–if you were born after 1975–you can be forgiven if you don’t get, but if you head on over to Google you can…you know what? Forget I said anything)
