Ankush ‘pistons87’ Mandavia has got off to a thundering start in the Main Event of the Italian Poker Tour Grand Final in Sanremo. The talented online player finished Day 1A with the second largest stack, positioning himself nicely for a deep run in the €2,000 event.

Although Abduraimov Enver holds the lead with 160,500 chips, it’s Mandavia’s 142,200 that the field should be worried about. Not only does the American hold WCOOP and SCOOP bracelets but he’s currently leading the EPT Season 9 Heads-Up Player of the Year leader board. You don’t win two of those heads-up events in a season without a lot of poker acumen.

Mandavia carries through the second-largest stack of the 66 players that made it through from the 128 that sat down. Day 1B kicks off later today with another bumper field, including PokerStars Team Online Alessandro De Michele and PokerStars Team Pro Luca Pagano, Dario Minieri and Pierpaolo Fabretti.
