Australia and New Zealand have engaged in some great sporting rivalries over the years. The Kiwis excel in the sport of rugby and the Bledisloe Cup is one of the fiercest contests you’ll ever see when the All Blacks and the Wallabies go at it.

However in all honesty, the Aussies don’t enjoy beating up on the Kiwis. They are like our little brother. They are good to pick on and throw around every now and then, but we love them and mean no harm.

When it comes to the Poms though, the Aussies love nothing more than taking on the arch enemy from the Motherland and ripping them to shreds. And today one of the nation’s great rivalries comes to a head with the first cricket Test match between Australia and England kicking off the Australian summer in Brisbane. Fortunately the Kiwis also love their cricket, so we’re hoping they’ll switch the Nelly Furtado music clips off the big screen and get the cricket on pronto!

Certainly the Aussies here in the SKYCITY Auckland poker room on Day 1b of the ANZPT Auckland Main Event are hoping that will be the case to help them pass the time in between hands today. The Aussies may not love beating up the Kiwis on the sporting field, but in poker there is no mercy! They’ll be out there today to try and take what they can get!

Yesterday we saw half of the 44 entrants survive the day. Today we have eight tables in action at the start of play, and with registration still open, we’ll certainly have a bigger field than yesterday’s number.

Perhaps we’ll see some great rivalries unfold here today as Day 1b of the ANZPT Auckland Main Event gets under way!
