Home / Uncategorized / ANZPT Sydney: Final Table Set, History to Be Made?

Only nine players remain in the ANZPT Sydney Main Event! Just a short while ago 11 players were still alive, but with one quick elimination, and a fairly short final table bubble, we have now arrived at the moment we have all been waiting for.

The biggest talking point of the day, for us in the media at least, has been the fact that both the winner of ANZPT Perth, Dejan Divkovic, and the runner-up Iori Yogo, were running extremely deep in the ANZPT Sydney Main Event. We say “were” because that deep run has now come to an end for one of them, as Iori Yogo found the rail in a very gallant 11th place.

Yogo is loving the ANZPT

The final hand of Yogo’s tournament would actually see all his chips go into the giant stack of Divkovic. It was all-in preflop, with Yogo holding KQ against the AQ of Divkovic. The board ran out 5A7J7 and with that, Yogo was heading to the rail. Considering Yogo’s elimination of an ANZPT once again came at the hands of Divkovic, we would venture a guess that Yogo will be having nightmares about his Bosnian opponent for weeks to come. If it’s any consolation to Yogo, for his finish he added $11,500 to his growing poker resume.

Following Yogo’s elimination, ten players remained and it was time for hand-for-hand. Not surprisingly it was Divkovic with a huge chip lead at this point and that lead only grew larger when Divkovic woke up with AA at the same time that Ben Gilholme decided to three-bet shove holding QJ. Despite hitting a jack on the flop of a 6J478 board, Gilholme couldn’t catch his miracle cards and with that, made his way home in 10th place.

Ben Gilholme was our final table bubble boy

Having dealt the final blow to both the 11th and 10th place finishers, Dejan Divkovic was sitting behind a monster stack that would take multiple trips from his previous table over to the final table. When they were all counted, Divkovic’s stack came in at 2,997,000 – almost triple that of his nearest opponent in Gary Benson. Check out the final table lineup below.

The final nine are in their seats and ready to play down to one

With Dejan Divkovic’s massive chip lead, it’s only a matter of time before we start writing records in the ANZPT history books. Of course that’s being a little too presumptuous and not giving the talented line up of our final table anywhere near enough credit. No, we don’t think it will be that easy for Divkovic, what with guys like Dan “djk123” Kelly, Michael “WaGe N WaRz” Fadersen, Dominik Nitsche Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson standing in the way. We are looking forward to this one! Check out a preview with Lynn Gilmartin below.
