One of my favourite things about working with PokerStars on the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour is the opportunity to visit new cities and enjoy the local restaurants at the end of a long day stuck inside a casino. Over the years we’ve been able to enjoy some fun evenings out, and often they’ve been led by ANZPT regular Raj Ramakrishnan as he plays host to take us to the best Indian joints in town. The ANZPT has become more like Australia New Zealand Indian Restaurant Tour.

We’ve enjoyed some great meals in Adelaide, Melbourne and Auckland, but none are as good as our favourite Indian restaurant here in Perth. Introducing Mr Govardhan Govindharajalu and his aptly-named restaurant, Gogo’s.

Gogo’s Madras Curry House is only a short cab ride from the Crown Perth Casino and last night we headed out for an Indian feast. Raj lead the charge with our group including poker room manager Deb Wyatt, ANZPT head honcho Danny McDonagh and Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang.

With Gogo himself working hard in the kitchen on a busy night in the restaurant, we were spoilt with an abundance of amazing dishes that were loaded with flavour. We enjoyed chicken, prawns, fish, lamb and even goat, with breads, rice and other sides leaving no spare room on the table. Danny even got his favourite butter chicken, despite claiming it was only for tourists. The Kingfishers were flowing and plenty of laughs had.

Over the years, Gogo has catered for many of the International cricket teams that have played at the WACA, and as such, he’s collected a heap of incredible cricket memorabilia which adorns the walls of the restaurant. There’s Sachin Tendulkar’s signed bat, Adam Gilchrist’s gloves from his final Test match, and Matthew Hayden’s bat from when he set a world record 380 runs here in Perth.

You’ll find Gogo’s at 556 Beauford Street, Mount Lawley, but if you can’t make it to the restaurant then you can now have Gogo’s in your own home with his range of packet curries. Just add chicken and water and voilà!

Many thanks to Raj and Gogo for another great night, and we’ll be back again next year!
