A huge field has arrived in the Crown Perth Poker Room for Day 1b of the ANZPT Perth Main Event. For just $2,200, our players have a shot at a likely record ANZPT Perth prize pool and the chance at becoming the newest champion of Australian poker.

Today’s field is split over two areas of the Crown Perth gaming floor. Inside the main poker room there are over a dozen tables in action while an additional six tables are located in the overflow area on the main gaming floor, which is also where our blogging desk is situated. While we’re surrounded by the clanging and clunking of pokie machines, this really is great space for tournament poker.

There’s plenty of foot traffic which sees passers-by regularly stop and check out what’s going on. Any time we can expose the game to new casino patrons, it’s a great thing for poker and we’d love to see more casinos adopt the same approach for their major poker events. The tables are boxed in the centre of the gaming floor with a rail that runs right around to give spectators a fantastic opportunity to view the action from all angles. When the final table is held here later in the week, there will be plenty of opportunity for friends and family to gather around and enjoy the spectacle.

But that final table is still three days away for our Day 1b players who have just taken their seats. Among them are the likes of Dan Kelly, Amanda De Cesare, Ricky Kroesen, Ivan Zalac, Daniel Neilson, Michael Kanaan, Mile Krstanoski, James Broom, Tristan Bain, Stev Lackovic, Jesse McKenzie, Tony Tartaglia, Aussie Millons gold ring winner Edison Nguyen, Full Tilt Ambassadors Liam O’Rourke, Tom Grigg and Jonathan Karamalikis, WSOPE bracelet winner Andy Hinrichsen and ANZPT Auckland champ David Lim.

There are over 160 entrants already today, which means we’re almost at 250 runners for this event. That’s is well above last year’s number of 219, which is a terrific result.

Once again we’ll be playing a fast and furious six levels today before bagging up and heading off to the Player’s Party tonight at The Merrywell here at Crown Perth.
