Once the clock ticks over to 12:30pm today it will be “go time” as Day 3 of the PokerStars.net APPT Sydney Grand Final gets underway. When we started out four days ago we knew that this was a solid field, yet we are drooling at the prospects of what may unfold today and the final table for the ages that this event could produce.
The field is led by the unpredictably colourful Reza Vakili who bulldozed his way to the chip lead yesterday. He will start out today on the feature table which should provide some entertaining moments for the APPT Sydney Grand Final webcast which will kick off today.
Joining him under the bright lights of the feature table will be Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu. Of course Negreanu is certainly no stranger to the attention that comes with being the most recognizable poker personality in the world, but for the rest of us that had to push our way through the throngs of fans to catch a glimpse of his table yesterday, we’ll be relieved to be relocated to the Star City Sports Theatre this afternoon.
And what an impressive location it is. The stadium style seating and big screens will provide a wonderful location for fans to sweat Negreanu’s action, and some level of comfort for your dedicated media crew. It truly is one of the best final table locations in the poker world, perhaps only rivalled by the WSOP itself.
While the overseas invasion is well represented with Negreanu, English “backpacker” Roland de Wolfe, Korean sensation In Wook Choi and PokerStars qualifier Antoine Amourette, some of Australia’s finest young poker talents are still lurking in the wings. Jonathan Karamalikis, Jarred Graham and Brendon Rubie are amongst the finest players we’ve ever produced, while 2010 Aussie Millions champ Tyron Krost and 2007 APPT Sydney champ Grant Levy have already proven they have what it takes to win a big one.
All the action kicks off at 12:30pm (GMT+11), and we can’t wait for it to get started!Back to Top
