One flight down and we’re back again for Day 1b of the APPT9 Macau Main Event.

The poker room is already alive here with a Main Event turbo satellite running and today’s new group of players wandering in to take their seats.

There may be some weary faces among the field today, with last night’s Player’s Party running into the early hours of the morning. We expect to see a lot of people capitalizing on the free Red Bulls during play today.

Players will be chasing China’s Zhifeng Yao who made a late charge yesterday to emerge as the Day 1a chip leader. Yao bagged up 174,700 in chips at the conclusion of play, just ahead of fellow countryman Xiaohua Fu with 172,200.

There were 207 players that pulled up seats yesterday, and as is the trend with APPT Main Events, that number is expected to be surpassed in the final Day 1 flight today. We’ll see another eight levels of action from 2pm local time, with survivors returning tomorrow to join the 76 who made the cut in yesterday’s Day 1a.

With the prospect of a bigger field today, we’re also promised some notable names in the pack. Team PokerStars Pros Bryan Huang, Celina Lin and Vivian Im have all confirmed their attendance, as has PokerStars Team Online Randy Lew. We’ll be watching closely to see if they can run up a stack and make a deep run this week in Macau.

Also taking a seat today will be USA high roller specialist Steve O’Dwyer who took the win in November’s ACOP Super High Roller for HK$14,050,000 (US$1,811,638). Fellow American Scott Davies is also predicted to play today after scoring HK$443,100 (US$57,147) for a third place finish in the HK$50k last night. Both will be after an APPT title and another big score over the next few days.

PokerStars LIVE Macau’s Fred Leung has just announced a one-minute call for the start of play here so we’re only moments away from another exciting day of poker action.
