Imagine going from a boring day job to winning a big tournament and becoming a household name, then spending the next 15 years working tirelessly to promote poker. Imagine ending up in the Poker Hall of Fame after all that hard work, an even worthier reward for the time you’ve poured into the game than the $2.5 million you won playing it. And then imagine someone informing you that you’re contractually obligated to spend time with Joe Stapleton.

Joe Stapleton introduces Chris Moneymaker to the crowd at Run It Up Reno’s Moneymaker Tour event

You really never know where life is going to take you. Just ask Chris Moneymaker. Even after leaving an indelible mark on the game, without a “no Stapes” clause in his contract to bail him out he had to stop by as the guest on Episode 166 of Poker In The Ears. Moneymaker talks about taking his Platinum Pass tour to the masses around the world, including his multi-day journey earlier this month from Sochi, Russia, to Run It Up Reno in northern Nevada.

Before the interview there’s plenty of movie and TV talk as usual, including the boys’ initial reactions to the new Star Wars trailer and the HBO Watchmen series. Stapes talks about his experience running deep in the PokerStars #VRPT High Roller event, while Hartigan goes over his brief appearance in the ‘Road to PSPC’ tournament hosted by The Hippodrome in London. And then Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse aficionado Jason Warnholtz tries to win an #EPTPrague satellite ticket in the latest installment of ‘Superfan vs. Stapes.’
