“Wazaahun” takes down Sunday Million

After several weeks of special editions and two-day tourneys, the Sunday Million was back to its old self with a $109 buy-in and $1 million guarantee. Still, 11,545 entries tipped the prize pool to over $1.1 million, and the tournament lasted an astonishing 14+ hours.

“Wazaahun” from Hungary braved the competition and claimed top prize. No stranger to major final tables, Wazaahun’s big scores include a third place finish in SCOOP 36-H in 2019 and a 2018 Winter Series event title. The Sunday Million is their biggest win yet, $117,425 for first.

“oardnasol” from Romania finished second for a very tidy $85,209, whilst “mitch85” earned $61,836 for third place, both earning by far their biggest scores ever.

You can find more details on the Sunday Million in the upcoming post, “5 things you didn’t know about this weekend’s Sunday Million”, published every Wednesday on the PS Blog.

Fedor “CrownUpGuy” Holz wins HR, “Clutch Hero” and Sam “SamSquid” Grafton win Main Events

Fedor “CrownUpGuy” Holz is a huge name in the world of high stakes poker. He is best known for winning the 2014 WCOOP Main Event, but has continued to accomplish great feats in both live and online poker ever since.

Fedor Holz won big in the Summer Series this weekend, taking down the $5,200 HR event for $156,377

Fedor scored the biggest win of the weekend (at least until the Main Events finish). He took down the Summer Series #167 HR event, earning a massive $156,377.

In close competition was Joao “Naza114” Viera from the Netherlands. Viera is a feared MTT player who has four SCOOP titles to his name, the biggest coming recently when he won #32-H for $186k. He took second place in the Summer Series HR, earning $121,057. Austrian reg “WATnlos” finished third for $93,714.

The $55 Main Event hit a prize pool of $1,323,700, way over its $1 million guarantee. Indonesian-based Japanese pro “Clutch Hero” emerged from the 26,474 strong field to claim first prize and bank $90,301 ($57,306 + $32,995 in bounties). It’s hard to find Clutch Hero’s results, but we do know he crossed the $2 million mark for online cashes way back in 2015.

“Ceneca Rush” from Brazil, a player with a decent track record at the low stakes, took second place for $64,685 ($57,306 + $7,379 in bounties), and UK player “Russelldust” finished third for $37k.

The event was by no means an easy ride for Clutch Hero. Swedish pro Christian “eisenhower1” Jeppsson narrowly missed out on the final table, crashing out in 10th place. Austrian pro “Bomber&Granater”, who added a SCOOP double to their list of accolades this year, was up there jostling for top spot, eventually finishing fourth, and several of the final table players were accomplished at their respective levels.

The $530 Main Event reached a prize pool of just a touch over its $2 million guarantee. 232 players remained at the break, with a huge $128k plus bounties up for grabs for first place. Everyone on the final table took away at least five figure paydays, with six figure sums reserved for first and second place.

“RunGodlike”, one of the four UK players who made the final table, had an epic run of knockouts, earning $17,832 in bounties, well above the average, before finishing in sixth place for a further $27,614.  At the top end, “crissdepaiss” from Canada made a welcome return to major MTT final tables, claiming third for $86,908 ($76,238 + $10,670 bounties). Swedish player “Assnacke” would have been happy to see crissdepaiss go, earning a pay jump and a chance to play heads-up for the big KO. Assnacke finished second,

Sam “SamSquid” Grafton earns over $200k in Summer Series Main Event

earning the huge $128,493 prize, plus a further $24,296 in bounties.

It was UK pro Sam “SamSquid” Grafton who outlasted them all. Grafton came onto the final table with a decent enough stack, and pretty much doubled up in the first hand with pocket Kings to eliminate “pAtcAsh83” and gain control. He carried this momentum forwards and never seemed to lose it, accumulating chips until he found himself sitting on a big stack with four players left. The experienced pro put in an excellent performance to tidy up and claim first prize, adding a total of $209,639 ($128,497 for first and $81,142 in bounties) to lifetime winnings in excess of $7.4 million.

Summer Series wins from the weekend

Elsewhere in the Summer Series…

Players made a three-way chop in the #141 Sunday Kick-off. Vietnamese player “giaohuongden” earned the most from the ICM split and went on to finish second, bagging a total of $30,437. “CeeCee666” from the UK took the initiative after the deal and went on to finish first, walking away with $29,494 and bragging rights.

The #142 Sunday Warm-up also wound up with a three-way chop “vasiokkk91” from Moldova finished top of the pile following the split, earning $48,217 for their efforts.

“anteen” was back on the tables once again after winning the Sunday Cooldown just a couple of weeks ago. The accomplished pro outlasted fellow Swedish player “Sasuke234” heads-up in the #147 $215 PLO. That gave anteen the title of biggest Omaha win of the weekend, $24,251 for first.

Another familiar face as of late, “Maty25” from Argentina won the Afternoon Deepstack just last week for over $30k. This weekend, they took down the #148 $55 PKO for $33,835 ($22,619, plus $11,216 bounties).

Other scores of around $20k+ included:

  • “nerdshock” from Finland won the Summer Series #134 Afternoon Deepstack for $23,580.
  • Argentinian “matiperez” earned $23,774 for first place in the #136 Saturday $215 event.
  • “tauzika” from Brazil earned $19,545 (very nearly $20k!) in the Sunday Supersonic.
  • Brazilian player “raffael_brum” won the #146 special edition Sunday Storm for $31,494.

Doubles for Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot and Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche

Long term pro Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot, who has nearly $6 million in online cashes to his name, made an impact this weekend. He took down the $215 Sunday Supersonic for $22,699 and, as if to show he’s no fluke artist, also won the HR Daily 500 for $3,158.

Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche has 4 WSOP bracelets, a SCOOP title and nearly $15 million in live cashes to his name

Another player not to be messed with, Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche is one of the most accomplished poker pros of all time. He has 32 WSOP cashes, including 4 WSOP bracelets, live winnings of nearly $15 million, and $5.8 million in online cashes to his name, as well as a SCOOP title that he picked up this year.

This weekend, Nitsche was found rampaging his way through the High Roller Club. He took down two events and final tabled two more. Here’s a quick summary of what he achieved:

  • First place in the $1,050 Daily Cooldown for $7k plus bounties
  • First place in the $530 Daily Supersonic for $10,314
  • Fourth place in the HRC $530 Bounty Builder for $3,910 plus bounties
  • Seventh place in the Summer Series #138 $109 PKO for $2,320 plus bounties

They may not have been the most valuable events of the weekend, but cashing in so many major tourneys proves two things: Nitsche was playing a solid game worthy of his acclaim, and he was running really hot.

Ole Schemion and Thomas Muhlocker take down HRC tourneys

Other big winners in the High Roller Club included Swedish player “giftmyra”, who’s already had big final table finishes in the 2020 SCOOP, and continued to add to their winnings, picking up the significant sum of $39,235 for first place in the $2,100 Sunday HR.

Ole Schemion was among those to win big in the High Roller Club this weekend

Ole “wizowizo” Schemion, winner of the recent Winter Series Main Event and multi-time COOP champ, fought through one of the toughest final tables of the weekend in the $1,050 Sunday Warm-up. The table included second place finisher “drupa_lucker”, as well as pros like “Lena900” and “papan9_p$”. Schemion earned $25,347 for first.

Thomas “WushuTM” Muhlocker, who’s recent conquests include a $160k first place in the Turbo Series HR, took down the Sunday Cooldown. He earned $12,321 for first place, crushing it with knockouts to add a further $22,781 to their total.
