It turns out that the people of Valle D’Aosta speak three languages. Italian and French are the official ones (the area is tucked up against Italy’s border with France and Switzerland), while more than half the population speak Valdôtain, the local dialect. This week though a fourth language was introduced: Poker, and it was spoken fluently.

That was because the Italian Poker Tour was in Saint Vincent again, one of those jewels of the region combining stunning Alpine views, with a fairy tale town.

Alas, Grimm fairy tales for most of the 370 entries to the knock-out re-entry Main Event, but not Francesco Elefante, who beat them all to a first prize of €28,500 earlier this week. That came from a prize pool that reached €179,450, with a further €179,450 dished out in bounty money.

Elefante, who was recording his biggest ever cash, beat Nicolaj D’Antoni heads-up who took €25,000 as runner up (the pair made a deal heads up). It was a scrappy last hand, with the money going in with D’Antoni hoping for the best with 36, which Elefante took on with 84. The flopped eight earned him the title.
