Sundays are usually reserved for winding down from a busy week, but in the world of online poker, it’s one of the most exciting days with the most opportunities to win big. Last Sunday saw the final events of the inaugural TCOOP series take place, and today brought all of the regular Sunday tournaments back into place and ready for action.

After a week filled with updates from EPT Deauville and the 75 billionth hand promotions, there was no rest for the weary as the Sunday majors filled the day with excitement.

That brings us to tonight’s Sunday Million. At the end of registration, we found these numbers:

Players: 7,401
Guarantee: $1,000,000.00
Prize pool: $1,480,200.00
Paid players: 1,080

We also found several players representing PokerStars who barreled through the money bubble. Team PokerStars Pro Andre “aakkari” Akkari of Brazil cashed out in 638th place for $414.45, and Team Pro Johnny Lodden or Norway took 530th place for $458.86. Team Pro Pat Pezzin followed shortly after in 507th place, also for $458.86, and the rest of the top spots were left to the remaining players.

Action came down to the last two tables just before the 10-hour mark, but it wasn’t until 20 minutes passed that elitelive was found to be the 11th place finisher. Hand-for-hand action then took players into the break and back.

After more than 20 minutes, the bubble burst when JMDA Y SALO risked it all with A♦ 10β™  against the 9♦ 9♣ of GiegelGagel. The board came 4♣ Qβ™₯ 3♣ 8♦ 3β™  , and JMDA Y SALO was out in tenth place with $8,141.10.

MatejK992SLO starts with dominating lead

Players took their seats at the final table in the midst of Level 39 with blinds at 200,000/400,000 and a 40,000 ante. Their initial stacks were as follows:

Seat 1: MeirDa (4,214,837 in chips)
Seat 2: Eskapisten (1,927,252 in chips)
Seat 3: grackhack2 (6,759,374 in chips)
Seat 4: MatejK992SLO (20,127,092 in chips)
Seat 5: fr0zZy (10,596,704 in chips)
Seat 6: GiegelGagel (9,368,244 in chips)
Seat 7: sprenger62 (2,789,956 in chips)
Seat 8: m0rtengud (10,628,036 in chips)
Seat 9: *C@LLMEM8* (7,598,505 in chips)

It only took a few hands for sprenger62 to make a move, and the double-up through GiegelGagel was successful.

Three hands later, MeirDa pushed all-in from middle position, and fr0zZy reraised all-in from the small blind. The big blind folded, and fr0zZy showed Qβ™₯ Q♣ , which was up against the J♣ 10♣ of MeirDa. The board came J♦ Aβ™  6β™  7♣ 8♦ , and the queens remained the best hand, knocking MeirDa out in ninth place with $11,471.55.

When m0rtengud raised from the button and Eskapisten looked down at Qβ™  9♦ in the big blind, the latter pushed all-in for just under 500K. M0rtengud called with Kβ™  7β™  , and the board simply brought 2β™₯ 3♦ J♣ 3β™₯ A♦ . The kickers played with the pair of threes, and Eskapisten was ousted in eighth place with $17,762.40.

*C@LLMEM8* doubled through grackhack2 in a pot worth more than 13.5 million chips, and that left grackhack2 with 115,770 chips. Those went all-in on the next hand. GiegelGagel and MatejK992SLO both called the big blind, and fr0zZy checked. They checked down the board of 7♦ K♦ 2β™  8♣ 6♦ , at which point fr0zZy showed 8β™₯ 6♣ for two pair, good for the main and side pots. Grackhack2 mucked and left in seventh place with $31,824.30.

Chop it up!

The final six players paused the tournament to discuss a deal, and as soon as the chip-chop numbers were provided, all players immediately agreed. With $20,000 set aside to be added to the winner’s payout, the numbers were:

Seat 4: MatejK992SLO (21,027,092 in chips) = $157,691.93
Seat 5: fr0zZy (12,622,212 in chips) = $113,001.31
Seat 6: GiegelGagel (7,378,288 in chips) = $85,118.20
Seat 7: sprenger62 (5,819,912 in chips) = $76,831.97
Seat 8: m0rtengud (13,265,288 in chips) = $116,420.69
Seat 9: *C@LLMEM8* (13,897,208 in chips) = $119,780.75

Short-stacked sprenger62 moved all-in shortly thereafter UTG, and m0rtengud reraised all-in right behind to isolate, which worked. Sprenger62 was at risk with 3♦ 3♣ , and m0rtengud had 10β™  10β™₯ . The board produced 9♣ 9β™  K♦ Qβ™  5β™₯ , and sprenger62 had to leave in sixth place with $76,831.97.

Two hands later, GiegelGagel risked it all with A♦ 8β™  , and m0rtengud was again there, this time with Aβ™₯ Q♦ . The flop of Q♣ 10β™  7♣ gave m0rtengud even more of an advantage, and the 5β™₯ turn and 7β™  river finished the hand. GeigelGagel exited in fifth place with $85,118.20.

Three hands after that, *C@LLMEM8* got involved in a raised preflop pot with MatejK992SLO and m0rtengud. After seeing the 4β™₯ 5♦ 3β™₯ flop, *C@LLMEM8* bet, and MatejK992SLO raised, which prompted a fold from m0rtengud. *C@LLMEM8* responded by moving all-in with 3♣ 3♦ for the flopped set, and MatejK992SLO was on a draw with 6♣ 6β™  . The Jβ™₯ turn led to the 7♦ river, which made the straight and eliminated *C@LLMEM8* in fourth place with $119,780.75.

Another two hands later, fr0zZy made the all-in move holding A♦ Qβ™  , but MatajK992SLO called with A♣ Kβ™  . The board of Aβ™₯ 7♣ J♦ 5β™  8♣ did nothing to change the outcome, and fr0zZy left in third place with $113,001.31.

Heads-up for $20K

The final two players started their duel with these counts:

Seat 4: MatejK992SLO (46,901,512 in chips)
Seat 8: m0rtengud (27,108,488 in chips)

MatejK992SLO came on strong and extended the lead, whittling m0rtengud down to less than 10 million chips. This double-up gave m0rtengud some hope:

But MatejK992SLO continued to play aggressive poker and chip away at m0rtengud. A few more double-ups kept the end at bay for a short time, but m0rtengud couldn’t build enough momentum to sustain.

Back down to less than 11 million, m0rtengud moved all-in again, this time with Kβ™  5♦ against the K♣ 8β™₯ of MatejK992SLO. The flop of Kβ™₯ 5♣ Qβ™  gave m0rtengud two pair, but the 8♦ on the turn gave MatejK992SLO the better two pair. The 7♣ on the river ended the match with m0rtengud in second place with $116,420.69.

MatejK992SLO of Slovenia won the tournament and $177,691.93 in cash. Congrats!
