Okay, okay. We get it. You really, really like the new PokerStars MicroMillions tournament series. As of this hour (a week and half before the series kicks off, by the way), nearly 18,000 people have already signed up for Event #1. It’s sort of overwhelming. In fact, it’s gotten so big, it’s going to require a few adjustments.
If you were among some of the early registrants, you might have noticed the participation cap on the event was 50,000. It seemed like a big enough number to cover, you know, one tournament. Obviously, the tournament registration is on pace to make 50,000 look quaint.
So, PokerStars made the decision this weekend to bump the cap up to 100,000 people (or approximately the size of a nice medium-sized city) and changed the format to make it a turbo. Otherwise the tournament would go on for more than a day, and nobody really wants that. It was a really nice thing of the PokerStars folks to do, I think.
But it was also caused another little issue that you’ll want to be aware of.
When you log into the tournament and see a starting stack of 50 chips, do not freak out. I repeat…do not freak out.
The PokerStars software is more robust than any in the business, but it can only handle so many chips in play. So, PokerStars reduced the starting stacks and rebuys to 50 chips.
But, seriously, don’t freak out. It’s all cool.
The tournament people also changed the structure, so blinds start at…wait for it…1/2. That’s right. Your PokerStars tournament is going to start with 1 chip/2 chip blinds. The structure goes up appropriately from there.
So, as far as we’re concerned, it’s going to be a pretty cool moment, and you’re right to be excited.
If it makes you feel any better about your exuberance, we here at the PokerStars Blog are pretty darned excited ourselves. Even though it means ten straight days of insanity, we’ve lined up a fabulously talented group of people to cover the final table of all 100 events just like we would cover WCOOP, SCOOP, and TCOOP. The buy-ins of these events may be small, but the payoffs are going to be huge.Back to Top
