Home / News / Montenegrin maestro strikes again in SCOOP as big Sundays get under way

Some enormous tournaments began on Sunday night in the 2022 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). Find out all the latest in today’s bulletin:

  • More for Montenegrin master
  • Four up for record-seeking Brazil
  • Colillas well placed for Titans chase

Last year’s hero Kaladjurdjevic back for more: This time last year, the talk of SCOOP was Dejan “dejanlc357” Kaladjurdjevic, who won the first ever SCOOP title for Montenegro. And then he won another. And another. Kaladjurdjevic was a three-time SCOOP champion, putting him and his country on the board in emphatic fashion. One year later, the Montenegrin poker boom is real. There were four players from Montenegro who won a SCOOP title in the 2022 series’ first 12 days — and now Kaladjurdjevic has joined the party again. He is a four-time SCOOP champion! This year’s success came in SCOOP 58-M: $109 NLHE Deep Stacks, and it came with a payout of $41,542. That was the prize for beating a field of 2,895 entries. As and when the Montenegrin Poker Hall of Fame opens, Kaladjurdjevic will surely be the first inductee.

Four more for Brazil, closing in on record: Another day, another four titles for players from Brazil. Last night, the winners were “DUFF MAN899“, “SAFADA1“, “Vitaop10” and “Carlos levis“, and that brings Brazil’s title haul to 47. Last year, Brazilians won 50 titles in SCOOP, which was an outrageous achievement, but it seems probable they will beat that with more than a week to spare. The all-time SCOOP titles record came pre-Black Friday, when the USA won 58 titles in 2010. Brazil are well on course to better that, and set a new all-time record.

More glory for Colillas?

Colillas looks for second in Titans: Some huge SCOOP Sunday tournaments are paused overnight, ahead of the conclusion today. The pick this week is the $5K Clash of the Titans PKO, where nine players remain from a 163-entry field. We know a lot about one of them: Ramon Colillas, who became a SCOOP champion for the first time last week, is placed fifth overnight and seeking another famous victory. The tournament leader Dinesh “NastyMinder” Alt has also already won a SCOOP title this year, so no one will be having it their own way. There’s the best part of $73K for the winner. Both Fintan “easywithaces” Hand and Lex Veldhuis have Day 2 sweats tonight too. Hand is 71/85 in the $1K NLHE and 11/19 in the $530 Sunday Kickoff, while Lex is 22/23 in the $1K Sunday Warm-Up.

With 190 tournaments now finished, the prize pools continue to close in on $50 million. When the Sundays are over, we’ll be far past that landmark.

SCOOP hasn’t been going especially well for Spraggy so far, and his most recent Tweet makes plain. But there’s no doubt he’ll be back for another week on the grind this week. And things can only get better…

“Perfect.” Lex gives himself full credit for this river bet in the $5K.

It’s now just a matter of when, rather than if, Brazil break the all-time record for titles in one SCOOP series.
