Alex Gomes, the smiling Team PokerStars Pro from Brazil, is a winner.
I know this because I’ve seen him win time and again. I’m so confident of Gomes’ ability that I am typically willing to bet on the man and give odds. In fact, it’s not been too many months ago that I found a sucker (his name rhymes with Stephen Bartley) to bet against Gomes heads-up against an online qualifier in a charity match. I had to give 8-1 because Gomes had an 8-1 chip lead. Still, it was a lock that Gomes would win, because he’s Alex Gomes.
Without belaboring the anecdote and disgusting ending to the story, suffice it to say I sort of feel like Alex Gomes owes me $80.
It’s with that we can move on to this week’s weekend tournament results, which are partially highlighted by further evidence that Alex Gomes knows how to win. This past weekend, Gomes took down the $215 Weekly 6-Max NLHE event for more than $14,000 (or, as I prefer to look at it, $13,920).
Of course, it’s not all about my belief in Gomes. Once again, Team PokerStars Online Pro Anders “Donald” Berg finished Sunday with yet another big weekly win, this time emerging with first place in the $215 Weekly Pot-Limit Draw tourney. Newly-minted Canadian Team Pro Marcello Delgrosso also had two final tables this weekend.
We also can’t forget the other big winners of the weekend:
See all the big weekend results on the 4-25-10 PokerStars Sunday tournament results page.
Good luck to everybody this week (even you, Senhor Gomes).
