Poker is a game of improbable comebacks and incredible capitulations, so to most online poker players the resurrection of Europe in the Ryder Cup after a languid 10-6 Day 2 display to win 14.5-13.5 at the death will have be of less surprise than to the average observer.

As European captain Jose Maria Olazabal pointed out, “All men die but not all men live.” Here’s a poker nod to those that felt their blood pumping more keenly than most this weekend.

The weekend round-up

  • Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez won the inaugural LAPT Panama title and $171,930 while travelling man Sam Razavi made yet another final table. The boy is on form.
  • Venezuela managed what the US failed to do and held firm to win the Americas cup of poker
  • Jason ‘teamwispy’ Helder won the Sunday Million for $201,962
  • The PokerStars Blog caught up with some WCOOP bracelet-winning heroes, one of whom, Steve ‘Illini213’ Barshak who won a $320 NL Hold’em tournament this weekend for another $21,884.85 (and is a room mate of Sunday Million winner Helder).
  • Other players that notched up good results include Ben ‘NeverScaredB’ Wilinofsky who took down the $215+R NL Hold’em for $19,400 and fellow EPT winner Jannick ‘EDWARDHOPPER’ Wrang who finished third in the $530 Sunday 500 for $39,139.50, which was the same position secured by Team PokerStars Pro Martin Staszko who banked $22,766.40 in the $215 Sunday Supersonic.
