Home / News / Ramón Colillas joins Team PokerStars Pro: “I have fulfilled another dream”

It is now official: the champion of the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) and the Spanish Poker Championship (CEP) is an ambassador of the largest online card-room in the world.

Ramón Colillas is living the dream; the dream that every poker lover has when he starts to play the game. Colillas, who became the talk of the poker world when he won $5.1 million in the Bahamas in January, is now the newest member of Team PokerStars Pro.

Colillas, 30, earned his passage to the spectacular tournament in the Caribbean this year by winning a Platinum Pass at the end of a 12-month journey across Spain. The university student from Barcelona became Spanish Poker Champion after topping the national leader board. He then rode the wave all the way to the PSPC title, and now wears the PokerStars red spade.

“I have fulfilled another dream,” Colillas says. “Champion of Spain, champion of the PSPC and now representative of the best poker room. Can you ask for more?”

It represents a new high in an already extraordinary young career. “When you start in poker you always think about Team Pro, and wonder whether you could ever get there,” Collilas says. “I was still savouring the PSPC win and suddenly this opportunity came in. This is what you always dream of. The tournament was just the start. Now I’m more excited about this than the even winning in the Bahamas.”

He adds: “I am very excited and hopefully it will last for many years.”

Dubbed the Spanish Chris Moneymaker after his remarkable freeroll win, Colillas expressed his particular pride at now representing the same team as the man who ignited the poker boom.

“I am honoured to join Daniel Negreanu, Chris and all the members of Team PokerStars who I have admired as a fan for a very long time,” Colillas said.

Eric Hollreiser, PokerStars Director of Poker Marketing, welcomed him to PokerStars. “Ramón’s journey is the stuff of legends and his humility, spirit and personality perfectly reflect the aspirations we see among young poker players around the world,” Hollreiser said. “Ramón is a great representative of the next generation of poker players and we’re delighted to welcome him as an ambassador for PokerStars.”

His official debut as a member of Team PokerStars Pro will be in Barcelona, the place where this incredible story first started. Almost exactly a year ago, Colillas won the Barcelona leg of the Campeonato Espana de Poker (CEP), which gave him the best start possible in the hunt for the Platinum Pass. The new season of the CEP gets started back in Barcelona this week, and Colillas will be the star attraction. His $5.1 million win is the biggest single prize ever earned by a Spanish player, and puts Colillas fourth on Spain’s all-time money list.

After kicking off at the CEP, Colillas will head to the European Poker Tour (EPT) stops in Sochi and then Monte Carlo, before playing the EPT Open in Madrid. Over the summer, he will head to the World Series of Poker and then the EPT back in of Barcelona. All the globetrotting suits him fine. “To be able to travel, to experiences cultures and people, that’s what I really like about live poker,” he says.

Ramon Colillas will now represent Spain and PokerStars across the world

Colillas also now recognises that he is in the spotlight, and that other players will look to him for guidance. That simply provides even more motivation, and he says he is happy to become a role model for other players. “I know I am going to be the centre of attention and the rest of the players at the table will know me. That gives me a little bit more pressure, but it will motivate me to learn to adapt.” He will, of course, get support from others in the PokerStars stable, for whom the limelight has come to be part of their everyday life.
