Home / Uncategorized / SCOOP 2015: Woody “plplaya” Deck wins second SCOOP of ’15, third overall in Event #39-H ($700 H.O.R.S.E.)

Halfway through the 2015 SCOOP any one of us would have christened it the year of Jason Mercier, as the Team Pro captured three bracelets in the first eight days of events. Now, as the final weekend kicks off, the year of the repeat is perhaps a more fitting label. No slight on Mercier, he could just as easily win another event tomorrow and steal it right back, but tonight, Woody “plplaya” Deck became the eighth player to win more than one SCOOP event this year, only hours after Luke “lb6121” Schwartz became the seventh. With his H.O.R.S.E. victory tonight, Deck is up to three career SCOOP wins and is the 14th player to earn three or more watches.

The high buy-in edition of the SCOOP’s lone H.O.R.S.E. event drew 245 players, driving the prize pool up to $162,925. 32 places were paid with first place set to earn $32,992.43.

Eleven and a half hours after cards went in the air, the field was down to its final nine players. The game was Omaha Hi/Lo and the betting limits were up to 5,000/10,000 when Thrash370 limped in on the button. Toril274 called from the small blind and vovtroy checked his option. All three players checked the KJ7 flop, but when the 2 turned, toril274 led out for 10,000. Vovtroy called off the last of his chips and Thrash370 folded. Vovtroy turned up Q1095 for a wrap draw and toril274 revealed AQ97 for the nut flush draw, a gutshot straight draw, and third pair. The 4 river missed both players’ draws and toril274 scooped with a pair of sevens, ending vovtroy’s run on the final table bubble.

Final table chip counts

Seat 1: toril274 (57,846 in chips)
Seat 2: Thrash370 (123,105 in chips)
Seat 3: Gigaloff (327,942 in chips)
Seat 4: dimas78 (230,613 in chips)
Seat 5: ekziter (39,568 in chips)
Seat 6: Ozzy 87 (128,571 in chips)
Seat 7: plplaya (152,163 in chips)
Seat 8: SirWatts (165,192 in chips)

On Hand #2, the final table lost its first player. The game was still Omaha Hi/Lo when dimas78 opened for 10,000 and toril274 called from the small blind. The flop came down 1032 and toril274 check-raised to 10,000. Dimas78 called and they went to the turn, which fell the 10. Toril274 bet, dimas78 raised and toril274 called all-in with QQ43 for queens and tens. Dimas78, however, turned up AAK2 for aces up and the nut low draw. Toril274 needed a queen to survive, but the J rivered and toril274 hit the rail in eighth place.

Ekziter was the shortest stack to start the final table and when the game shifted to Razz, he made his last stand. Betting limits were 6,000/12,000 and Ozzy 87 had the bring-in with the 10. Dimas78 completed to 6,000 with the 3 and ekziter called with the 3. Ozzy 87 folded, sending them heads-up to fourth street. Dimas78 made the low board with 3J and led out for 6,000 and ekziter peeled after catching a queen. Dimas78 kept the low board on fifth and led out, ekziter raised with 3Q6 showing and dimas78 called with 3J4. Dimas78 checked sixth street, ekziter bet his last 6,868 and dimas78 called.

dimas78 (29) 3J46 (5)

Ekziter got his money in with the best of it, holding an 8-7-6-3-A low on sixth street while dimas78 had a 9-6-4-3-2. However, both players rivered fives, and dimas78 improved to 6-5-4-3-2, besting ekziter’s 7-6-5-3-A.

As play turned six-handed, SirWatts lost a sizable stud hand to plplaya, who bet every street with his split aces and raked in the 129,000 pot. SirWatts fell to 91,000 in chips and was crippled by Thrash370, who rivered a flush in stud high and left SirWatts on 13,792 in chips. A few hands later, SirWatts got the rest of his chips in on third street in Stud Hi/Lo and got four callers– Gigaloff, dimas78 and plplaya. That trio continued betting on the side as dimas78 checked fourth street to plplaya, who made it 8,000 to go. Gigaloff called and dimas78 folded. Gigaloff led out on fifth and sixth streets and plplaya called, but plplaya folded to Gigaloff’s river bet.

Gigaloff (37) 52A4 (7)
plplaya (X-X) 465Q

Gigaloff turned up a wheel and scooped the pot, ending SirWatts’s run in sixth place. This was SirWatts’s sixth final table of the 2015 SCOOP and to further this whole year of the repeat notion… he has already won two events this year.

Gigaloff entered five-handed play as the chip leader, but Ozzy 87 overtook him after scooping a stud hi/lo pot with kings and sixes. Gigaloff fell to 167,000 and dipped below 100k after folding to dimas78’s river raise in limit hold’em. With 43,000 remaining, Gigaloff three-bet preflop in limit hold’em and led out for 8,000 on an 866 flop. Thrash370 raised, Gigaloff moved all-in for 19,418 and Thrash370 called. Gigaloff showed pocket sevens for two pair while Thrash370 revealed 79 for an open-ended straight draw. Thrash370 took the lead with a pair of nines when the 9 turned and the river K sent Gigaloff to the rail in fifth place.

The short stack four-handed, dimas78 dipped to 94,000 from 144,000 when Thrash370 rivered jacks up to scoop in Omaha Hi/Lo. The game was still O8 when dimas78 three-bet preflop, then led out for 10,000 on the 1092 flop. Thrash370 called. Dimas78 fired again when the 10 turned, but when the 8 came on the river, he slowed down and checked. Thrash370 bet 20,000 and dimas78 folded, electing to save his remaining 34,000.

A few hands later, dimas78 got the rest of his chips in the middle preflop vs. Ozzy 87 and plplaya. The flop came down 1083 and Ozzy 87 check-called plplaya’s 10,000 bet. Both active players checked the 3 turn and when the 6 rivered, Ozzy 87 bet 20,000 and plplaya called. Ozzy 87 turned up A975 and took the high with a ten-high straight, while plplaya took the low with A652 for an 8-6-3-2-A low. Dimas78 mucked, his journey ending in fourth place.

As three-handed play commenced, plplaya had the chip lead with 528,000, Thrash370 held 381,000 and Ozzy 87 was the short stack with 317,000.

Plplaya had a bad razz level and an even worse turn at stud, falling all the way to 31,000 in chips before making an incredible comeback at stud hi/lo to retake the chip lead with 500,000. However, when limit hold’em rolled around, Ozzy 87 caught the worst of it. The betting limits were up to 16,000/32,000 when Ozzy 87 raised preflop and plplaya three-bet to 48,000. Ozzy 87 called and they saw a Q86 flop. Plplaya led out and Ozzy 87 called. The turn came the 4 and plplaya checked to Ozzy 87, who bet 32,000. Plplaya raised to 64,000 and Ozzy 87 called. Plplaya fired another 32,000 when the Q rivered, but Ozzy87 gave up his hand, conceding the 272,000 pot.

On the next hand, Thrash370 opened from the small blind and Ozzy 87 three-bet. The flop came down J85 and Thrash370 checked to Ozzy 87, who bet 16,000. Thrash370 raised, Ozzy 87 reraised all-in and Thrash370 called with J9 for top pair. Ozzy 87 was drawing to two outs with 22 and blanked the turn and river to go out in third place.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 2: Thrash370 (595,468 in chips)
Seat 7: plplaya (629,532 in chips)

Shortly after heads-up play began, plplaya and Thrash370 paused the action to discuss a potential deal. Here’s how they stacked up at the time:

Thrash370 707,468
plplaya 517,532

Plplaya quickly agreed to the proposed ICM chop which would award him $28,100.46 and Thrash370 $29,145.24, but Thrash370 thought his edge was worth a little more.

Thrash370: my advantage seems wayyy more than 1k atm
plplaya: no chance
Thrash370: i mean i’d play then
Thrash370: like i said
Thrash370: i’d look at the numbers but you wouldn’t like it

Cards went back in the air and plplaya immediately took control of this heads-up match, winning a 384,000 limit hold’em hand when his 33 flopped a set and rivered threes full of aces. Plplaya moved up to 790,000 on that hand and early in the Omaha Hi/Lo level, passed 1.1 million. On a Q5410 board, plplaya check-called Thrash370’s flop and turn bets, then led out for 32,000 when the 2 rivered. Thrash370 called, but mucked in the face of plplaya’s six-high straight and 6-5 low with 9863.

Thrash370 was down to 74,404 and the game was still Omaha Hi/Lo when plplaya opened for 32,000 on the button. Thrash370 three-bet and plplaya called. Thrash370 bet his last 10,404 on the QJ5 flop and plplaya called.

Thrash370 A864
plplaya 8732

Neither player had much of anything on the flop and Thrash370’s ace-high still led when the 9 turned. However, the 2 landed on the river making plplaya a pair of deuces and they were enough to scoop this pot and lock up the win.

Congratulations to Woody “plplaya” Deck on his third career SCOOP watch and his second this year! He banked $32,992.43 for the win, while runner-up Thrash370 earned $25,253.37.
