Diego “Mr.Bittar” Bittar was last seen competing for a SCOOP title in 2015, when he entered the final of Event #40-M with the chip lead and eventually finished fourth. Now, two years later, despite not leading for the first time until just two hands before the tournament ended, the Brazilian has earned his elusive first title in SCOOP 2017’s Event #04-H.

One thing was clear from the moment that the final table began: incoming chip leader Oliver “sk2ll_m0dR” Weis was on course for a SCOOP heads-up showdown for the second consecutive year. The two-time Super Tuesday champion and runner-up in last year’s Event #43-H had climbed steadily up the leaderboard throughout Day 2, progressing from 25th of 85 players at the day’s start to the chip lead on the final table bubble. Then he scored a double-knockout, winning with A♦ A♥ to bust both kinglune and 2011 WSOP Europe main Event winner Elio “smokrokflock” Fox, who had Aâ™  K♣ and Q♣ Q♥ in the hole, respectively, in 11th and 10th places.

Weis’s enormous incoming chip lead all but guaranteed that the rest of the table was competing to see who would get to face off with him for one of the first championship titles of SCOOP 2017.

Seat 1: TUTI88 (1,239,944 in chips)
Seat 2: Diego “Mr.Bittar” Bittar (1,831,455 in chips)
Seat 3: João Mathias “joaoMathias” Baumgarten (2,660,156 in chips)
Seat 4: rchn1 (601,375 in chips)
Seat 5: DeosOner (1,420,529 in chips)
Seat 6: MB TREMENDO (172,467 in chips)
Seat 7: the_djemba (644,606 in chips)
Seat 8: Oliver “sk2ll_m0dR” Weis (6,469,468 in chips)

The final table’s first hour saw Weis grow his stack by almost 40 big blinds. Meanwhile, two knockouts came courtesy of other players. The first was delivered by fellow past Super Tuesday champion João Mathias “joaoMathias” Baumgarten, whose A♥ K♦ toppled the A♣ 8♥ of Uruguay’s MB TREMENDO – the only player from the Event #04-H SCOOP 2016 final table to repeat this year – in eighth place. Two orbits later the only past SCOOP champ at the table, TUTI88, called with A♥ 6♣ in the big blind and won unimproved against K♦ Q♦ to take out the_djemba in seventh.

The next hour consisted mostly of jostling for position. Weis remained the leader. Only rchn1 was knocked out, and then only after the Canadian doubled through Mr.Bittar up twice, both times with pocket aces – the first against 7♣ 7♦ and the other against K♥ Q♥ . But Mr.Bittar’s third time was the charm – his 10♦ 10♥ topped rchn1’s big-blind-defending 5♦ 5â™  to send the Canadian home in sixth.

The following hour saw no knockouts at all. Weis’s stack topped 9.1 million chips, while the nearest stack was Mr.Bittar’s, which at 2.1 million was half as big as it had been at the hour’s start. Three others were hanging on with less than 2 million chips each, but there was no real pressure on them as the slow structure had only advanced to the 20K/40K/5K level. It took a big pair and two bigger overcards colliding before the flop to force a showdown, and joaoMathias’s A♣ K♣ won out against DeosOner’s J♣ J♦ thanks to an ace on the turn.

DeosOner managed to double the remaining 212K in chips once, but an attempted steal with K♣ 3♣ in the small blind got picked off by Weis, whose A♦ Jâ™  in the big blind hit a jack on the turn and sank the Aussie in fifth. A few hands later Mr.Bittar and joaoMathias chopped a pot when they both had A-Q in the hole, but joaoMathias wouldn’t survive past the next hand. He defended the big blind with K♥ 10♣ , three-betting all-in for 1.3 million over the top of Weis’s 120K opener, and lost out in fourth when Weis called with A♥ 10♥ and flopped an ace.

Short-stacked TUTI88, who won SCOOP 2014’s Event #06-H, chopped a pot with Weis two hands later when the board came Q♥ Qâ™  9â™  10♥ Q♣ , giving both Weis’s button-raising Aâ™  8♣ and TUTI88’s small-blind special A♥ 6♥ three queens with an ace and a ten. But it would be a short reprieve for TUTI88, who moved in with Q♣ Jâ™  from the small blind two hands later. Mr.Bittar called with A♣ 10♥ and made three tens by the river, ending TUTI88’s quest for a second SCOOP title in third.

Both Diego “Mr.Bittar” Bittar (with 4.06 million chips) and Oliver “sk2ll_m0dR” Weis (with 10.97 million) were willing to look at numbers for a deal, but the gap in chips – more than 110 big blinds by the time they started hashing out numbers – left Bittar wanting a bit more than ICM. Weis wouldn’t deal, so they kept playing and he expanded the lead further.

Then came a hand where both players limped in. Mr.Bittar check-called 226K on the 4♣ 6♦ 8â™  flop and 567K on the 9♦ turn before checking the 4♦ river and seeing sk2ll_m0dR move all-in. He dipped into the time bank for a while before calling with 10♥ 9♥ for nines and fours. That turned out to be plenty – sk2ll_m0dR had been bluffing with 5♥ 2â™  and a busted gutshot straight draw – and suddenly Mr.Bittar had 7.27 million chips to sk2ll_m0dR’s 7.76 million.

Immediately Weis and Bittar agreed to cut a deal that split the remaining prize pool straight down the middle and left $20,000 for the winner. And just as quickly, Weis re-raised all-in on the button K♦ J♥ after Bittar opened with A♥ 3♣ on the button. Bittar called and won unimproved when the board came 9â™  7♣ 4â™  4♦ Q♣ , giving him the chip lead for the first time at the final table. Holding 14.68 million chips to Weis’s 354,240 gave him plenty of ammunition, and two hands later his J♣ 9♦ out-flopped Weis’s Q♥ 7♦ to close out this event.

Congratulations to Diego “Mr.Bittar” Bittar on making the most of a late rally and earning his first SCOOP title!
