All the very latest from the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), where we’re in the calm before the storm of a massive final weekend…

TODAY’S HEADLINES

• Matthias Eibinger adds SCOOP title to growing collection
• After bronze and silver, “lildani9” strikes gold
• Six winners from six different countries
• 6+ tournaments start today!

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Eibinger the best in Midweek Freeze: If you call yourself “iambest2” at the PokerStars tables, you had better have some game to back it up. Thankfully, Matthias Eibinger, who sits behind that moniker, has emerged over the past few years as one of the absolute cream of the crop, and he now also has a SCOOP title to add to his growing collection of accolades. Eibinger beat the 96-strong field in the $5,200 SCOOP Midweek Freeze, which finished last night, ultimately defeating Simon “IgorKarkarof” Rønnow Pedersen heads up. Eibinger won $114,703.80, which seems to be his biggest score on PokerStars. Note that in the four short years since he first appeared on the live scened, Eibinger has accumulated cashes of more than $10 million, including seven of more than $500K. This is only just the start of what could turn into one of the very best careers.

Matthias “iambest2” Eibinger: First SCOOP title

“lildani9” completes the medal collection: Before last night, Hungary’s “lildani9” had finished third and second in SCOOP events this year – first in the Sunday Million, where bronze came with a $180K prize, and latterly in the Sunday Warm-Up, where he took $34K as runner up. He now has the full set of medals after an outright win in SCOOP-107-H: $1,050 PKO, where his total haul hit $91,624.65. That included a remarkable $47,712 in bounties, which was more than the $43,911 he took from the main prize pool. lildani9’s last opponent was “kennyct31” of Romania, while former SCOOP Sunday Million winner Jonathan “Corback_fr” Therme was third. In fact, the deep stages were stacked: Dominik “Bounatirou” Nitsche finished fifth, “XMorphineX” was seventh, and Gianluca “Tankanza” Speranza was eighth. Fintan “easywithaces” Hand streamed all the way to 22nd, but lost his last chips with Q10 to “Gedis92” of Lithuania.

FEATURE! FEATURE! FEATURE!

How to be a better player

In our most recent SCOOP feature, we asked a long list of SCOOP champions what are the three things that they think they do well that have helped them to the top of the online game. It wasn’t just about pumping hot air up them, either. This is so that you can learn from them and improve your own game.

The answers read like a “how to” manual for elite level poker: dedication, persistence, application, concentration. As Phil Galfond once said, “The biggest misconception in poker is that poker is its own innate skill, like saying ‘I’m good at dancing’.” The best poker players possess a vast array of skills and traits which have led them to success.

Here’s your chance to learn from the best:

The three things SCOOP winners do well (and how you can start doing them too)

TWITCH WATCH

Fintan Hand’s Thursday started so well, but didn’t go all according to plan. Twohands in particular took a terrible toll, and they happened back to back. In the first, “easywithaces” was looking good in 37th place of 90 in the $109. And even though he ended up with a set of jacks, the river card was “salty”:

This one happened at the very same time, and spelled doom in the $1,050 version of the same event:

LEADER BOARD LATEST

Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi: Chasing Rui

All of our top five players on the overall leader board continue to play just about every event on the SCOOP schedule, and continue to make the money. For instance, with 14 players left overnight in the High buy-in PLO event, Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira currently sits second and Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi is ninth. Both are guaranteed some more points. They both also have chips in the Thursday Thrill, which has 103 players left. SCOOP will eventually finish after Sunday’s tournaments wrap, but expect this Player of the Series race to continue right to the end.

Latest standings:

COUNTRIES LEADER BOARD

A comparatively small number of tournaments wrapped last night, but it was notable for the fact that the six winners came from six different countries. It had minimal impact on the overnight standings, which still shows a two-horse race at the top. Although SCOOP is entering its final weekend, there are still 51 undecided titles, so it’s officially still anyone’s game.

Latest standings:

44: UK
41: Brazil
30: Russia
20: Germany
19: Netherlands
16: Canada
12: Ukraine, Austria
11: Sweden, Norway
Nine: Mexico, Ireland
Seven: Finland
Six: Greece, Romania, Hungary

Four: Argentina
Three: Peru, Lebanon
Two: Malta, Denmark, Belgium, Japan, Uruguay, Bulgaria, Croatia, Luxembourg, Moldova, Latvia
One: Kazakhstan, Slovakia, North Macedonia, South Korea, Czech Republic, Macau, Cyprus, Slovenia, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia.

There are still large parts of the world, and the high roller community, for whom this is the favoured variant, so enjoy it.
