It wouldn’t be a major festival without a title for Benny Glaser. And we only had to wait three days in this year’s Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) before the mixed game titan bared his teeth. All that and more in today’s SCOOP round-up…

BEHIND THE HEADLINES
Seven up for Glaser: Benny “RunGodlike” Glaser is, without question, among the very best mixed games players in world poker. He has three WSOP bracelets as proof of his live game skills, and last night added a seventh ‘COOP title when he defeated a field of 122 in the high buy-in 8-Game event. The result earned Glaser $54,853.75 and further consolidated his status as the absolute cream of the crop in the very toughest discipline.
SM champ adds SCOOP win: Russia’s “Lucky_Jew_17” has had a spectacular 12 months. He won the Sunday Million twice (becoming one of only 17 players who have done that) and last night he won his first SCOOP title, prevailing in the $530 buy-in PKO. His total haul was $124,632.24, split almost evenly between bounties and prize pool, after he beat Peru’s Diego “Die Ventura” Ventura heads up.
Bridesmaid becomes the bride: The UK’s “com 157” has twice finished second in the Super Tuesday, as well as in the Sunday Warm-Up, but became a SCOOP champion late on Saturday night in the $1,050 buy-in NLHE event. com 157 defeated the former PCA champion Dimitar “KuuL” Danchev heads up and won nearly $130K, which is the biggest single prize so far in SCOOP this year.
Russia 1, Russia 2, Russia 3: The first 1-2-3 of this year’s SCOOP happened in the high buy-in 5-Card Draw event last night as Alexander “joiso” Kostritsyn took gold ahead of his countrymen “Parasol6Ka” and Denis “aDrENalin710” Strebkov. Kostritsyn has numerous COOP titles to his name, as well as a formidable presence at the cash tables, and this victory bagged him another $23,666.39, including bounties. This tournament also offered the first glimpse in the deep stages of the powerhouse Strebkov, who has previously dominated online tournament series. Fellow Player of the Series stalwart Jussi “calvin7v” Nevanlinna finished third in the medium buy-in version of this event, behind Hungary’s “MarkBang“.
Japan vs. Japan: For years, the most prominent and successful Japanese online player has been Naoya “nkeyno” Kihara, who has won numerous SCOOP titles, particularly in non hold’em events. Last night, Kihara could only watch as his countryman “fish_san” bagged a maiden SCOOP event — beating Kihara heads-up at the end of the $215 8-Game. It was a very rare Japanese 1-2, with fish_san winning $22,022.45 and Kihara taking $15,441.65. The UK’s Luke “lb6121” Schwartz was third. Mason “Pye_Face21” Pye‘s challenge ended in 13th. A five-way deal brought the low buy-in version to a close, with Ireland’s “Nr1InEurope” closing out for the title and a $7,825.49 payday. It was the first title heading to the Emerald Isle so far in this festival.
Rebuy!: The first rebuy event brought predictable insanity, particularly in the $2.20 low buy-in tournament. There were 13,589 players but they added a further 17,287 rebuys and 7,592 add-ons, bringing total stacks in play up to 24,879. Peru’s “Malicious20” won $9,444.66 and the title, which is fairly amazing for a tournament costing a couple of bucks. The medium buy-in version more than doubled its , with Brazil’s “cassolGana” taking the title after a three-way deal. And in the high buy-in, there were 1,082 re-buys and add-ons among the 736 players, which meant a prize pool of nearly $370,000. It was again a Brazilian coming out on top: “Eleres88” won $62,622.06.
Twitch streamers miss finals, just: In addition to Mason “Pyefacepoker” Pye, Lex Veldhuis and Ben “Spraggy” Spragg also had their Twitch viewers on the edge of their seats last night. But Veldhuis fell in 14th in the $530 PKO, picking up around $5,600 including bounties, and Spraggy finished 22nd in SCOOP-05-M, turning his $109 buy-in into $2,120.37 in an event won by Germany’s “staanemer“. The outright victory was worth $112,835.35.
