It was the first Sunday of the 2020 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and it was every bit as exciting as you might expect. Squeeze in, it’s standing room only. Here’s the very latest…

BEHIND THE HEADLINES
Room at the inn? The busiest day on the SCOOP calendar so far meant 18 tournaments starting, of which three played to a winner, as well as the completion of six of Saturday’s events. To the surprise of no one, the numbers were huge. The $215 Sunday Million Special Edition attracted 9,935 players, with the prize pool nearly doubling its guarantee, while the $2,100 Sunday Million High Roller brought out the best in the world. The top 15 of the 42 remaining overnight includes Fedor “CrownUpGuy” Holz, Jorryt “TheCleaner11” van Hoof, Sami “Lrslzk” Kelopuro, Pedro “PaDiLhA SP” Padilha and Sam “SamSquid” Grafton.
A full constellation for the High Roller: The $10,300 High Roller was another star studded affair, with both Van Hoof and Holz in the last 11 of that tournament too. Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira, Andras “probirs” Nemeth, Daniel “Oxota” Dvoress and Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel are also still involved, with $271,790 up top. Meanwhile, Max “goodeh99” Silver leads the $2,100 PLO, which is down to its last 35 and in the money.

Massive score for Passiveaggro: Russia’s “Passiveaggro” was the night’s biggest winner when he or she picked up the title in the $1,050 buy-in PKO event, which attracted 1,157 entries. With a bounty payout of $82,200.12, more than the first-place prize, Passiveaggro’s total haul came in at $161,844.81. “thegodfisher” of the UK won the medium buy-in version and “marakana1965” of Greece took down the low.

We’re getting into the swing of things now during this festival, and that means the Player of the Series Leader Boards are worth looking at.
Remember, this year there are two phases to the leader board race, one for the first half of SCOOP and one for the second week. Players can win SCOOP tickets from the first part and then cash prizes for the second, specifically $5,000 for the low, $7,500 for the medium and $10,000 for the high. The overall Player of the Series takes an additional $25,000 and a trophy.

Day 5: Monday, May 4
“Only” four events (ie, 12 tournaments) kick off today, but there’s great subtlety and variety among them. First up it’s fixed limit hold’em, which will be greeted by groans by many, but whoops (getting bigger by fixed amounts) among the purists. We then have a six-max PKO hold’em event, a format that everyone seems to say they prefer, but which someone actually has to be quite bad at. (There’s a $1 million guarantee on the $530 buy-in version.) And then there’s a dangerous looking no limit PLO hi/lo event, which really separates the bad from the even worse. Thankfully, we end up with a sedate and normal NLHE affair, with a $11 low buy-in. Set your brain straight, and lick your wounds, with that one.
