Home / Events / Stadium Series Wednesday update: Double Grand Final victory for Brazil

Although they are still planning for the afterparty, the 2020 Stadium Series is officially over. Here’s all the details as this summer jamboree ended in three climactic finals on Tuesday night — and why they’re partying already in Brazil.

Fernando Viana: Biggest winner in Stadium Series

Vamos Viana! Brazil’s Fernando “fviana” Viana became the inaugural high buy-in Stadium Series Grand Final champion after striking a three-way deal and then going on to claim every chip in play. Viana went into negotiations with Serbia’s “Vlada2108” and Maxime “Daghemuneguu” Chilaud when it was only the three of them involved, and when the Brazilian had a significant chip lead. (He had more than double both of his opponents’ stacks.) The specifics of the negotiations are not known, except to say that Viana finished the tournament with a payout of $721,235.15, Vlada2108 took $553,931.64 and officially finished second, while Chilaud, who led the tournament overnight, took $570,219.71 with his third place. Viana has cashed multiple times on the LAPT and was at a WSOP final table last year, finishing third in a $1,500 Super Turbo Bounty for what was then a career-best score of $116,426. But this result beats both that and his prize for winning the half-price Sunday Warm-Up in January.

A special mention too to “MarinkaHT“, who finished fifth, but whose journey began with a chest drop during a $7.50 tournament on PokerStars. The chest contained a $109 ticket, which MariankaHT parlayed into a $1,050 ticket and then the $5,200 Grand Final. The final payday was $162,067.50, and it all began with that $7.50 outlay.

Caio Pessagno triumphed in the medium buy-in event

Vamos Pessagno!: Arguably the best known player at any of the three Grand Final final tables was Caio “Pessagno” Pessagno, a former Team Online member from Brazil. And in common with his countryman Fernando Viana, Pessagno struck a three-way deal in the medium buy-in event before going on to win. Pessagno went into negotiations with “JustPray” of Romania and “RB Tiger” of the UK before clinching the victory and a $266,006.35 payday. JustPray won $202,586.08 and was beaten heads-up, while RB Tiger earned slightly more, $202,934.94, but went out in third. In 2014, Pessagno shared the secrets of his success, which included conditioning his body like that of a high-level athlete. He has continued to battle his way through the biggest tournaments since then, earning more than $8 million on the online tournament felt. But last night was the biggest score of his career, by a considerable distance.

Hmmm, Cheessseburger: The low buy-in Grand Final also finished in a three-way deal when “23lovecrew”, “Pocok85” and “Cheessseburger”, who were first, second and third overnight, were the last three players remaining at the end of the final table. By this point, “Cheessseburger”, representing the Netherlands, had the biggest stack and duly secured the biggest payday when he or she closed out the tournament and took home $96,029.37. 23lovecrew, from Belarus, had to settle for $76,927.82 and the runner-up spot, while Pocok85 took $69,759.98. With no documented tournament results to speak of for any of the top three, each will consider this result a special achievement, and $55 very well invested.
