This spring we watched Shaun Deeb destroy the 2012 SCOOP series with eight final tables and four champion watches. In the same series Dan “djk123” collected his first SCOOP title to go with his three WCOOP titles. Tonight’s $500,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up would also feature someone with the same type of hardware sitting at home and should be listed in the same breath as the two players previously mentioned.

For Team PokerStars Pros and Team Online, only Team Online’s Mickey “mement_mori” Petersen would cash this evening, collecting $610.19 in 161st place.

Heading into a quarter past the eighth hour of play only 18 remained with a familiar name sit on top of the leaderboard. Calvin “cal42688” Anderson winner of the Main Event Passport, two SCOOP watches, a WCOOP bracelet, and sprinkle of other Sunday Major final tables and looking to add a Sunday Warm-Up title to an overloaded trophy case. With RobertJShaw (United Kingdom), Pawel-POL (Poland), infiniteRMB (China), and anybody1108 (Germany) all taking off quickly in the following 15 minutes in 15th-18th place, Anderson’s four million chip stack with blinds at 30K/60K ante 6K matched that of PUAboy and darrenelias as 14 players remained. trollllort (Switzerland) and Muurhuizen (Netherlands) would scoop up $2,653.00 in 12th and 13th place respectively as angrymoron left befuddled shortly after at the hands of flopped6810 who flopped a boat with pocket sevens to press the Belarus player out of the tourney.

Two hands later cal42688 in the small blind would catch a stroke of luck after calling Alonnnnnn’s 822,736 chip shove from cutoff. Holding Kâ™  Qâ™  to Alonnnnnn’s big slick A♣ K♦ , Anderson would need to find a lady somewhere on the board. And wouldn’t you know at the end of the flop, she appeared 8♥ 7♦ Q♣ J♦ 5♣ to give cal42688 the 1.7 million chip pot and start up hand-for-hand play.

Usually the final two tables take a break, and gather some nourishment before combining to make the final nine. But not tonight. With the blinds at 40K/80K ante 8K Shanhin86 would shove from the hijack seat for 923,157 chips as it foled around to Xplogo in the big blind holding A♣ 10♠ . Xpologo would make the call as Shahin86 flipped up red pocket threes3♦ 3♥ for the coin flip. While Shahin86 would start in the lead, the cards coming out on the board kept favoring Xpologo as 7♠ 9♦ 8♦ fell on the flop for an open-ended straight draw, and the turned dagger 6♠ would leave Shahin86 hoping for a three-outer for a chop. The 2♥ fell and the final table was set below:

SundayWarmUp_081912.jpg

Seat 1: TapeWormJim (1734648 in chips)
Seat 2: cal42688 (6318929 in chips)
Seat 3: Xplogo (3740637 in chips)
Seat 4: fengikareh (1597649 in chips)
Seat 5: PUAboy (3263332 in chips)
Seat 6: darrenelias (3299055 in chips)
Seat 7: flopped6810 (3547914 in chips)
Seat 8: Jackal69 (1213280 in chips)
Seat 9: OpenShip27 (1814556 in chips)

Four and out

Normally the term is “three and out” in American Football to signify a offensive drive that goes out for three plays, fails to advance 10 yards, and takes a seat on the bench again. Jackal69, winner of the Battle of the Planets freeroll in March for $12K, and slew of Sunday Major cashes, would unfortunately go four hands at the final table and out. Jackal69 would try to squeeze PUAboy’s min-raise with the blinds still at 40K/80K ante 8K and darrenelias’ call with a shove for 1.06 million from the cutoff. PUAboy called as darrenelias donated to the pot. Pocket fives for PUAboy 5â™  5♣ would need to hold against Jackal69’s A♦ Q♥ but the high cards would never latch on to the 6♦ J♦ 8♣ 4â™  9♥ board as Jackal69 was turned towards the rail in ninth place ($4,510.10).

Not part of the plan

Get your money in good. Usually a decent plan for making cash at the poker tables as well as the easiest rule to remember. With the blinds at 50K/100K ante 10K Xplogo and OpenShip27 thought they were getting their money in good and both shoved with Xplogo covering in the 4.1 million chip pot. Who won? Check out the video below:

OpenShip27’s queens Qâ™  Q♦ with a 4:1 advantage over Xplogo’s nines 9♥ 9♦ was the definition of getting it in good. However the 10♣ K♥ 7♥ 8♣ 6♦ board had other ideas giving Xplogo a rivered straight to claim the big pot and hand OpenShip27 a consolation prize of $7,693.70 in eighth place.

Lucky number nine!

Nine hands later as the blinds moved up to 65K/130K ante 13K pocket nines were back in the picture as darrenelias started off the betting with a raise to 262,500 as TapeWormJim, feeling the discomfort of a small stack, shoved for 1.98 million. The table folded back to darrenelias holding pocket nines 9♠ 9♦ covered the bet and made the call. A flip would determine the winner this time as TapeWormJim showed A♠ 10♠ . With only one spade and no card over a seven 7♥ 2♣ 7♠ 4♦ 5♥ darrenelias showed TapeWormJim to the outhouse in seventh place ($12,469.10).

STOP MIN-RAISING ALREADY!

Every. Single. Hand.

cal42688 was not sitting on top of his chip leading stack waiting for aces. Instead the table was treated to the frequent mosquito bites of min-raises from Anderson’s stack. Xplogo fresh off losing a 2.8 million chip pot to cal42688 when the Australian called a min-raise and two more subsequent bets to see Calvin’s top pair of tens was good, got a little steamed to see yet another min-raise from the hijack seat on the next hand.

With the blinds at 80K/160K ante 16K, Xplogo was not willing to be picked at any longer and shoved preflop for 3.6 million. Folded back to cal42688 holding over eight million chips and 10â™  A♣ to make the call. Pocket treys 3â™  3♦ looked good for Xplogo after the 6♦ J♥ 2â™  flop. However, a pair of aces showed up on the end of the board Aâ™  A♥ and it was Xplogo’s time to go in sixth place ($17,775.10). Not the first time to the party as Xplogo scored $51K in April from this tournament as part of a five-way chop.

The very next hand cal42688 led with a… wait for it… min-raise! And once again someone was not in the mood for getting picked apart. This time PUAboy put in the all-in bet for 2.98 million as it folded back to Anderson holding ace-ten again 10♥ A♥ to make the call. No flip on this 6.2 million chip pot as PUAboy showed 2â™  Aâ™  . PUAboy’s hopes of a flush or straight ran dry as zero spades or low cards hit the 9♦ 7♦ Q♥ J♦ A♣ board to end the German’s night in fifth place ($23,081.10).

2.8 + 7.5 + 6.2 = 16.5 million chips worth of pots going to cal42688 as he would run off nine straight pot during this run to take a commanding lead.

Fancy seeing you ladies here. Not.

As the blinds moved up to 100K/200K ante 20K fengikareh held just over a million chips (1.07 million to be exact) and needed a little lady luck to get back into the tournament after open-shoving from the cutoff with J♣ 8â™  . Instead fengikareh would run into the ladies of darrenlias Qâ™  Q♦ who quickly made the call. Despite an eight on the flop 9â™  8♥ 6♥ Aâ™  5♣ fengikareh’s tournament was finished in fourth place ($31,034.79) after the 2.49 million chip bolstered darrenelias’ stack.

Did that just happen?

Five hands later darrenelias would raise from the small blind for 416,500 as cal42688 must have mis-clicked and folded on the button (or maybe sprained his finger from raising so much). But, flopped6810 would ensure there would be action as the big blind shoved for 4.2 million holding A♥ J♣ . Back to darrenelias with 9♦ A♣ and call that would leave just 1.4 million behind. darrenelias made the call and was further dejected by the jack on the door J♥ 3♠ 7♠ . Needing running near-perfect cards darrenelias took the hardest route as a nine 9♠ hit the turn and river 9♣ for miraculous runner-runner trips to send flopped6810 home with a $44,570.40 bad-beat story in third place.

Calvin “cal42688” Anderson wins the Sunday Warm-Up

When it’s your day, it’s your day. All the flips come in; all the needed cards are face up in the middle. Heads-up play would last just five minutes as cal42688 would take down the first five hands to expand his lead to 19.5 million to darrenelias’ 6.9 million. But, both players had plenty of play left with the blinds at just 100K/200K ante 20K and they choose to go the quick route towards awarding the $83K first prize.

On the tenth hand of heads-up Anderson would lead off with a min-raise to 400,000 as darrenelias three-bet to 950,000. Choosing to be even more aggressive, Calvin shoved for his entire stack as darrenelias thought for a second before calling with J♥ A♣ . Watch below as Anderson needed to catch a little something:

cal42688 revealed Jâ™  Q♣ dominated by darrenelias’ ace kicker. No worries with 13.7 million chips in the middle as a queen appeared in the middle of the 6♣ 5â™  Qâ™  2♣ 5♥ to ship Calvin “cal42688” Anderson yet another major title as this week’s Sunday Warm-Up champion!
