Pot-limit Omaha is already an action game, those four hole cards providing a lot more possibilities than the two of hold’em. Add a fifth card and things get even more interesting, and making the game six-handed ramps the action up even more. 

Such was the game in TCOOP Event #28, an $82 buy-in tournament that played out today. Three years ago bokkie87 made a final table in a TCOOP event, another PLO tournament where the player from the Netherlands took fourth. bokkie87 made it three spots better today, getting all of the way to first to secure a TCOOP title in Event #28. bokkie87 earned $11,396 for the win following a heads-up deal.

 

With re-entries there were a total of 931 entries for this one, which meant a prize pool of $69,825 that nearly tripled the $25K guarantee.

When the bubble burst and just 119 players were left, yutida was the chip leader but there was still a long way to go. Indeed, it took more than an hour-and-a-half for the field to be carved down to the last two six-handed tables, with yutida having just gone out in 14th ($650.52) and shrekpoker91 having pushed well in front into the chip lead.

lukro8 (12th) was the next to go, earning $650.52, then dribbs#13 (11th) and Bernardo “bedias” Dias (10th) each exited to pick up $833.25 apiece. champion515 (ninth) and Aaltonee (eighth) $1,067.31 were then ousted, and when Slavik_Krs went out soon after that (seventh) to earn $1,367.13 the final table was underway.

shrekpoker91 continued to enjoy the chip lead as the tournament moved into a sixth hour. Before long the blinds were 40,000/80,000 when shrekpoker91 opened for 240,000 from the button, bokkie87 reraised from the small blind for 1.12 million, then Sergettt called with the 155,702 left after posting the big blind. shrekpoker91 stepped aside, and the other two players’ hands were revealed:

bokkie87: A♣ A♠ K♠ J♦ 10♣
Sergettt: A♥ Q♦ 6♠ 3♦ 2♥

As it turned out those aces didn’t matter for bokkie87, as the board rolled out 8♣ J♣ J♠ J♥ 5♠ to make quad jacks and send Sergettt railward in sixth. 

A couple of minutes later the blinds were 50,000/100,000 when former WCOOP winner Alexander “utvekklo2” Ceder raised to 350,000 from the button, shrekpoker91 (still leader) called from the big blind, and the flop came A♣ 7♣ A♦ . shrekpoker91 checked, Ceder bet all in for 432,833, and shrekpoker91 called.

Ceder had 9♣ 9♠ 8♣ 7♠ 6♦ for aces and nines while shrekpoker91 hadn’t connected with K♣ Q♠ J♣ 8♥ 3♠ . The J♥ then fell on the turn to give shrekpoker91 a better hand, and the K♦ river made it even better as Ceder was eliminated in fifth.

Things continued to go swimmingly for shrekpoker91 for a short while longer, but then bokkie87 won two big all-ins versus shrekpoker91 to take the lead and make the latter the short stack.

It wasn’t much longer before shrekpoker91 raised to 420,000 from the button (blinds 60K/120K), hmduisburg called from the big blind, and the flop came 9♥ 2♣ 5♠ . hmduisburg led with a bet and shrekpoker91 called all in with the 394,846 left, turning over K♥ K♣ J♥ 8♦ 7♦ (kings, plus a gutshot) while hmduisburg had A♥ J♦ J♣ 9♣ 5♥ (nines and fives). 

The turn was the A♦ and river the 3♣ , improving hmduisburg to a better two pair while shrekpoker91 was stuck with that pair of kings and was knocked out in fourth.

Just a moment later bokkie87 raised to 560,000 from the button and x3rces called all in for just a little less total after having posted the big blind. bokkie87 had A♥ K♠ 7♦ 2♠ 2♣ and x3rces A♦ K♦ J♠ 10♦ 8♣ . The community cards came J♦ 3♠ 2♦ 3♦ 8♦ , making a flush for x3rces but a full house (deuces full of treys) for bokkie87, and x3rces took third.

That pot increased bokkie87’s lead to start heads-up play, pushing bokkie87’s stack up to 6,628,058 (just over 41 big blinds) versus hmduisburg’s 2,681,942 (not quite 17 BBs).

hmduisburg won a big all-in early in their duel to narrow the lead, then even had the advantage briefly before bokkie87 took it back. That’s when the pair decided to pause proceedings to discuss a possible deal, with bokkie87 sitting on about 5.06 million while hmduisburg had about 4.25 million.

Even before numbers were produced, bokkie87 typed “i want more than ICM if you want a deal.” hmduisburg then proposed $10,000 go to bokkie87, which meant $7,543.67 for hmduisburg with $1,396 left aside for the winner. That worked for both, and the deal being done play soon resumed.

Two small pots went by, then hmduisburg raised 3x to 600,000 from the button, bokkie87 reraised 3x to 1.8 million, hmduisburg shoved for 4,653,884 total, and bokkie87 called.

The board came 10♣ 10♦ 2♠ 2♥ J♦ , giving bokkie87 two pair to claim the final pot and the TCOOP title.

Congratulations to bokkie87 for needing just five hours and 39 minutes to top a 931-entry field to win TCOOP Event #28 and a nice prize of $11,396. And kudos as well to hmduisburg for making it to the heads-up deal to secure a $7,500-plus payday.
