BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Brunno “botteonpoker” Botteon picks up second WCOOP title: The number one ranked player in Brazil, Brunno “botteonpoker” Botteon has nearly $4.5 million in online winnings to his name, regularly massacring the High Roller Club. Now he has a second WCOOP title. Botteon took on an elite field in the 36-H Midweek Freezout. Fintan “easywithaces” Hand missed the final table, finishing 10th. Michael “SirWatts” Watson came third and “Gedo92” second. Botteon took top spot for $80,642.

“The_Truht” established as top PLO player: Ukranian player “The_Truht” made a deal with “nilsef” in the 37-M PLO (6-Max), before finishing first for $38,971. This is the player’s second WCOOP title, both coming this series, and both in PLO games. The_Truht also won the SCOOP $109 PLO Main Event this year for $74k. For any Omaha enthusiasts reading, this is definitely one player to keep an eye on.

Andras “probirs” Nemeth picks up second title of series: The $5,200 37-H PLO (6-Max) offered huge prizes up top and attracted top Omaha players from around the world. Shaun Deeb came close, but couldn’t seal the deal to bring him up to joint first for number of WCOOP title wins. Instead, it was Hungarian pro Nemeth who outlasted the field, claiming first place for a huge $140,506. Nemeth’s first title of the series came on Day 5 in the 15-H. He’s one of the top earners in online poker with at least $17.7 million in winnings, including Sunday Million wins, two SCOOP titles, and now a second WCOOP.

Andrey “Gigaloff” Zhigalov wins high stakes Razz event: The WCOOP is not just about Hold ‘em and Omaha tourneys. The 40-H was a Razz event that attracted a gifted field of hopefuls. Among the final tablists were Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi and Dzmitry “Colisea” Urbanovich, but it was Russian player Andrey “Gigaloff” Zhigalov who claimed first, earning $27,440 and a WCOOP title. Zhigalov has an unusual mix of games on his big win scorecard, including FLO8, FL Badugi and Omaha hi-lo results, so no surprise to see such a talented player rock the Razz event.

Sam “SamSquid” Grafton wins high stakes Freezout: UK pro Sam Grafton has over $7.7 million in cashes and is currently ranked 37th worldwide. Grafton already has two SCOOP titles to his name, but is another high level player who has never quite taken a WCOOP title for his own. Now was Grafton’s time. He won the $2,100 41-H Freezout, outlasting players like “prebz”, “WushuTM” and “CrazyLissy” to earn his title and $84,770.
