WSOP Main Event ends after epic final table

It took 442 hands for the 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event final table to play down to a winner, including a ten-hour heads-up duel. That made it the longest Main Event final table in history.

But finally, at around 4.45am on Sunday morning, John Cynn managed to defeat Tony Miles to become the champ, and claim the $8.8 million first-place prize.

John Cynn: World Champion

PokerStars Blog’s Howard Swains had a ringside seat for the whole thing. Cynn told him after his life-changing victory: “You can’t compare that with anything else in poker. There’s no equivalent to this in poker…Obviously when you’re put in pressure spots, all the money goes in, you realise what it’s for.

He added: “The money is very significant, but I do like to think that I don’t need the money to be happy…Even to my parents, this is money that they never could’ve imagined. It’s definitely going to be life-changing.”
