To Sochi and back

Not only are we back in Sochi for the PokerStars Festival this week, but we’ve made plans to take the PokerStars Championship back to the Black Sea coast in 2018.

In news announced earlier today, the Championship returns to Sochi in March of next year, with a Main event boasting a RUB 150,000,000 guarantee (that’s about $2.5 million).

“It’s great to see PokerStars return to Sochi for a third time. It shows that there’s a real appetite from players for a world-class event in the area,” said Team PokerStars Pro Igor Kurganov. “The venue is beautiful and there’s plenty to do away from the felt. I can’t wait to ski early in the day and play poker as après-ski. It will be an incredible stop!”

As well as the Main Event here will be a slate of side events, including a National Championship and a High Roller. Details of all of this can be found in our blog post.

Poker in The Ears

The latest episode of the podcast is a Bad Poker Movies Special! It’s now live on iTunes, Stitcher, SoundCloud etc.

“In this special episode, James and Joe look back at two of the worst poker movies of all time, which also happen to be two of the worst Hollywood productions of the late-2000s. They conduct comprehensive, retrospective reviews of ‘Lucky You’ (2007) and ‘Deal’ (2008), analysing the appalling poker, mediocre writing and questionable acting.

“Loyal listener Gareth Taylor also made the mistake of watching one of these films, but at least he stands the chance of winning a $109 #PCA2018 satellite ticket in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. Please don’t forget to subscribe, rate and review our podcast.”

Introducing PokerStars School

It was all change for PokerSchool Online this week, which became PokerStars School, completely with great new content and a better looking, easier to use website.

2017 ACOP gets started

The second PokerStars event getting started is taking place in Macau, where the 2017 Asia Championship of Poker kicks off today.

It warms up, rather appropriately, with a HK$25,000 warm-up event, at 6pm local time (basically now). That marks the start of ten days of poker.
