These days the modern game is played as much away from the tables as it is at them, thanks largely to social media. A good or a particularly bad hand can be over in a matter of seconds, but it can go on to be discussed for months or more, dissected minutely by an often unforgiving crowd on Twitter.
But then, isn’t that all part of the fun?
As we get ready for the kickoff of the 2014 World Championship of Online Poker, we’ve compiled a list of the best people to follow on Twitter for the duration of the Championship. Most are players, some you may know and others you might not. But they should provide a different perspective on what it’s like to play, win and lose in the most important online series on the calendar.
There are countless other players to follow, and we detailed the most popular last month on the Social Power Table. But a good place to start is the list we’ve compiled below, featuring Team Pros, members of Team Online and other noted tweeters who do it well and resist the urge to post pictures of breakfast, or cats. That said we offer no guarantees.

George Danzer is fresh off a double bracelet winning World Series of Poker and as we reported earlier this week, he has his eye on a top five finish on the WCOOP leader board. Meanwhile, while Leo Margets tweets largely out of left field, Jake Cody is fresh off becoming a father and offers a unique perspective as a family man and a jobbing pro.
Can Danzer add WCOOP jewelry to that brought home from Las Vegas? Can Cody dodge the diapers long enough to earn his first bracelet?

Shane Schleger tweeted every step of the way of his journey to the WCOOP Main Event final table last year, while Kitty Kuo’s tweets are worth sticking with for her truly original take on the world, as seen from her seat at a poker table. For Jorry van Hoof meanwhile WCOOP will prove a useful training ground ahead of his date with the November Nine later this year.
