By the time Melvin Charrier arrives to the Bahamas, he will be a new father — an achievement he lists as the biggest in his life. The question that prompted that answer came in the wake of the 30-year-old’s victory at the Road to PSPC tournament in Gujan-Mestras, France, where he beat a field of 590 entries in a €360 buy-in tournament. It earned him €35,000, plus the Platinum Pass, which is potentially his passport to far greater riches. But for now, it’s all about the imminent new arrival to his family.
Charrier took up playing poker when he was 16, with friends, and continues to play recreationally. He has a number of tournament successes from weekly events in the Gujan-Mestras casino, which is about a 90-minute drive from his home in Coutras, in south west France. The PSPC will be the biggest tournament he has ever played.
