The bubble burst in a very 1D way, swift and brutal.

The final 30 players were spread across three tables and the short stacks quickly busted. Then there was a small slowdown when we got to 26 players. A number of short stacks held pocket aces and doubled up, but it wouldn’t last long.

Over at table one, Ruan Zhaojun and Gao Lei got all their chips in the middle. Lei was short-stacked and held A♦ 8♣ to Zhaojun’s A♣ Jâ™  . The board ran 7â™  10â™  Kâ™  7♦ 5♦ and Lei hit the rail in disappointment.

Zhaojun used his monster stack to push his table around. He chipped up by constantly moving all-in against a number of small stacks. With 4,000/8,000 blinds and a 1,000 ante, every pot was sizable.

Zhaojun continued to increase his lead while Chul Woo Jung — who held the lead late in the day — lost a big chunk of his stack.

Jung raised to 20,000 form under-the-gun and Kevin Petersen called, bringing a 5♦ K♠ 6♥ flop. Both players checked and a 7♣ came on the turn. Petersen moved all-in for over 100,000 and Jung thought for a minute.

Then he called.

Jung showed A♣ J♣ for ace-high while Petersen tabled a set of kings with K♥ K♣ . A J♥ completed the board and Petersen doubled up while Jung fell to 155,000.

Then everything ended.

Zhou Quan raised to 19,000 from the cutoff and John Tech moved all-in from the big blind. Quan thought, looked at the other tables and then slowly pushed his stack in the middle.

Quan showed J♥ 10♥ and was relieved when Tech tabled 10♠ 3♥ .

Then the flop came 5♠ 2♥ 3♣ and Tech cheered. A 4♦ came on the turn to bring hopes of splitting the pot with a straight, but a 5♥ on the river crushed them.

It was fast and brutal, the motto for Day 1D.

Stay tuned for a wrap of today’s events.
